Assistant Manager, Roynat Operations - Canadian Commercial Banking

 

Purpose

 

The Assistant Manager requires solid knowledge of Roynat Financing functions and other non-term account administration matters and is expected to guide Field Accounting Officers and other Roynat Field offices that rely on the accounting department for support. 
 
You will work under general guidance from the Manager, Field Accounting. There is regular interaction with peers within the department and personnel from Roynat’s field offices. Contacts outside of Roynat are limited and may occasionally include management and staff from Roynat’s partners.

 

Accountabilities:

 

Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

 

Provides excellent customer service by assuming ownership for the accurate, timely, and proper administration of a portfolio of client loan and investment accounts related Roynat Capital;

•    Assumes responsibility for accounting administration of assigned client accounts.
•    Records and maintains sub-ledger and general ledger transactions
•    Verifies work of the Field Accounting team members to ensure accuracy and integrity of the sub-ledger database. 
•    Provides coaching/training advice to team members as part of the verification process.
•    Performs various general accounting duties as assigned which may include bank reconciliations, financial reports for Roynat Capital, review of bank accounts, reconciliations, and other financial analysis.
•    Assists the accounting group to meet deadlines which include client billing periods, month-ends, and submission of information to Roynat management and to the Bank

 

Enquiries, Reporting, Billing and Deliverables to BNS;

•    Works with the Corporate group on preparing/reviewing reporting to various internal partners including monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting to Roynat and the Bank of Nova Scotia.
•    Liaises with Canadian Banking Finance, Executive, external/internal auditors and District/Regional Offices as required to provide and obtain information.
•    Supports the Field Accounting team in meeting various deadlines such as client billing, month-end closing and submission of the client portfolio to the Bank.

 

Verifies and approves wires for disbursements, payments and transfers to clients and suppliers; Verifies and approves AP transactions and signs off on cheques in the absence of Managers.

 

Assists in Training New Hires; 


•    Works with Manager, Field Accounting in the development and delivery of training for the Roynat Operations team. 
•    Supports Manager, Accounting in planning and leading the activities to enhance communication and collaboration of Accounting Officers with District Offices (conference calls, meetings etc.)
•    Contributes to effective team morale and employee relations through positive interaction with team members and participation in activities such as team meetings.

 

Provide technical support to ensure the enquiries from District Offices and from the Executive team are responded to in a timely and accurate manner; 

•    Maintain an up-to-date and strong knowledge of the accounting applications and the guidelines published on the internal website and those set out in the Term Financing, Leasing and Equity manuals 

 

Provides back-up assistance to Manager, Field Accounting in their absences and as needed. 

 

Continuous Process Analysis and Process Improvement;

•    Actively identify possible procedural efficiencies to streamline processes
•    Participating in system changes and maintenance
•    Work on special projects as assigned

 

Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

 

Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education / Experience / Other Information:

 

Education

•    A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in a related Accounting position.
•    Completion or later stage of completion of an accounting designation a strong asset (i.e., CGA, CMA, CA)

 

Skills/Work Experience 

•    Strong financial accounting knowledge and excellent skills in financial analysis.
•    Ability to work with minimum supervision and to represent the Finance group at different forums requiring subject matter expertise and strong problem-resolution skills
•    Ability to see ‘the big picture” and analyse complex information
•    Strong knowledge of sub-ledger and general ledger
•    Ability and intent to align all business decisions with Scotiabank's Guidelines for Business Conduct and its Guiding Principles, to promote and respect confidentiality by protecting the integrity of information
•    Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
•    Strong attention to detail with superior analytical skills
•    Strong ability to prioritize workload and understanding urgency
•    A high level of motivation and commitment
•    A high level of capability with MS Excel and MS Word
                                        

Working Conditions

•    Work in a standard office-based environment (40 King Street West, Toronto); non-standard work hours are a common occurrence.
