Job Purpose

The TSC Analyst is responsible for providing a high level of customer service to Trade Services’ clients, ensuring compliance of the Bank’s AML, KYC Policies and for identifying and referring potential new business opportunities through the review of transactions.

 

Key Accountabilities

Provide superior service and support to TSC customers by: 

  • Ensuring transactions are executed in a timely and accurate manner, in adherence with established Service Level Agreements.
  • Ensuring all aspects of the customers’ trade needs are addressed in a manner consistent with Scotia Service Standards and Complaint Resolution Standards and in doing so positively differentiate the level of service/support provided to the customer from that provided by other financial institutions as it related to trade services.
  • Verifying that all client documentation is complete, compliant and appropriately authorized.
  • Ensure all activities and transactions are processed in accordance with the Bank’s KYC, due diligence, AML policies specifically, GTB’s Compliance Trade Services and Financial Institutions KYC/AML/ATF Policy & Procedures handbook. Including the completion of TFAP, conducting World-check on the parties, identifying red flags documenting due diligence activities under “Appendix C” and/or “Appendix D”.
  • Ensuring all TFAP forms are accurately prepared/processed.
  • Developing and maintaining ongoing communications with customers.
  • Responding promptly and effectively to request, concerns and complaints from customers, other TSCs, and GTB Sales team in order to propose workable solutions.
  • Discussing issues with clients and resolving discrepancies.
  • Making final decisions or recommending solutions to the TSC Manager.
  • Developing and maintaining an excellent specialist knowledge and strong understanding of Global Transaction banking trade products, services and pricing.
  • Assisting with the maintenance and problem resolution of Global Transaction Banking trade products and services for assigned customers.
  • Developing and maintaining an excellent level of knowledge of trade services issuance policies and procedures.
  • Providing a high degree of service and support combined with innovative approaches to resolving Customer/Sales Officer issues while maintaining an overall low risk for the Centre.
  • Through the review of documentation, identify and refer business opportunities to GTB Sales to assist with the overall group objectives – i.e. new export LC and/or banking opportunities, Cash Management and FX cross-sell opportunities, etc.
  • Occasional participation in client meetings, where appropriate, to provide expertise and recommendations on electronic product features, trade instrument structuring options, Service Level Agreements, etc.
  • Setting up Customer profiles and maintaining appropriate customer files/documents and customer records.
  • Actively identifying and participating with the development of recommendations/ideas for process and systems improvement.

Process trade finance transactions:

  • Handle all processing activities related to documentary import L/C, export L/C, and documentary collection in the Trade 360.
  • Ensure operational and documentary requirement are met while protecting the interests of the bank and its customers.
  • Determining priorities and organizing workload accordingly.
  • Thoroughly reviewing all scanned documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • For reviewing export and import Letter of Credit shipping documents, to use independent and sound judgment to eliminate operational and financial risks for the Bank. Thoroughly reviewing all shipping documents including, but not limited to, purchase orders, bills of lading, transport documents, packing lists, invoices, certificates of origin, inspection certificates, etc to ensure they are strictly compliant with the terms and conditions outlined in the LC and in compliance with the applicable UCP rules (currently UCP 600).
  • Investigating, resolving or escalating issues to the appropriate party for documentary import L/C, export L/C and documentary collection.

Verify and/or release all activities related to documentary import Letter of Credit, export Letter of Credit and documentary collections transaction by:

  • Reviewing accuracy and completeness of all details of the documentary import Letter of Credit, export  Letter of credit and documentary collections transactions are complete and correct – instructions, compliance, limits, etc. before releasing.
  • Ensuring the transaction presented for verification falls within assigned limits.
  • Ensuring timely release through the T360 system.

Provide administrative support as required by:

  • Scanning and indexing documentary import Letter of Credit applications, documentary import Letter of Credit and export Letter of Credit documents.
  • Sorting documents by instrument type and logging documentation in the appropriate work queue.
  • Reviewing scanned documents, ensuring they are complete, accurate and legible.
  • Contacting customers to determine documentation delivery instructions.
  • Distributing document to clients by mail, fax, scan etc.
  • Perform sundry administrative support as required – i.e. BFs, filing, incoming/outing mail, etc.
  • Act as back-up to other Trade Services Analysts as required and release transactions as per delegated limits.

Contribute to the effective functioning of the TSC team by:

  • Building effective working relationships across the team and with various business line and corporate function contacts.
  • Maintaining a high level of customer service.
  • Facilitating a culture of open and honest communication.
  • Actively participating and contributing to touch bases and team meetings.
  • Encouraging the generations of new ideas and approaches.
  • Actively sharing knowledge and experience to enhance the development of all team members.
  • Developing and executing a meaningful Employee Development Plan.

 

Education/ Work Experience

  • Thorough and complete knowledge of the Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits (currently UCP600),  the Bills of Exchange Act, URC 522, URR 725 , ISBP and SWIFT procedures and any other applicable trade finance rules and regulations.
  • Expert knowledge of trade related products, services, processes and pricing.
  • Excellent knowledge of Bank’s regulations, policies, procedures, operations and functions.
  • Working knowledge of Bank’s business related products and services.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Bank’s transactional services.
  • Working knowledge of the Bank’s Anti Money Laundering and compliance policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of techniques to generate quality referrals.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Bank’s automated systems.
  • Proficiency in computer applications related to Trade Finance and Microsoft Office.
  • 3 to 6 years of trade finance experience.
  • Preferred – Certified Documentary Credit Specialist.
