Position: Women in Capital Markets STEM Summer Internship

 

Location: Toronto, ON

 

Position Description:
Scotiabank is pleased to be partnering with Women in Capital Markets (WCM) to offer exciting summer internship programs in our Global Capital Markets, Investment Banking and Corporate Banking groups. The programs are catered toward women in undergraduate programs from quantitative disciplines who are interested in the complex and exciting world of the financial industry. We are seeking highly motivated individuals who are interested in the financial markets and would like to gain firsthand industry experience.

During your internships, you will get involved in ongoing business projects and work side by side with our Financial Markets professionals. You will be encouraged to speak up and take initiative on specific projects, day to day activities and be part of an amazing team. The program will also include personal development opportunities such as Lunch & Learns, a mentorship program and other team building activities to enhance your experience over the summer.

We are offering an overall five internship opportunities within our Global Capital Markets - Sales & Trading, Corporate Banking and Investment Banking teams.


Capital Markets , Sales & Trading Internship Program
The Capital Markets, Sales & Trading Summer Internship is a four-month position that is designed to introduce students to the stimulating and dynamic environment of a trading floor. Students will have exposure to various desks:

 

  • Global Equity
  • Fixed Income
  • Currency & Commodities


    Summer interns will provide assistance to the Sales, Trading and Structuring staff on the trade floor in the execution of their day-to-day functions. They will also assist in preparing client pitches and presentations, and conducting market research and analysis.



    Investment Banking Internship Program
    The Investment Banking Summer Analyst Program is designed to introduce undergraduate students to the stimulating and challenging career of investment banking, involving equity financings and mergers and acquisitions.

    Summer analysts will have an opportunity to gain knowledge of financial analysis such as market comparisons, company valuations and pro-forma financial modeling. In addition, analysts will help prepare client presentations, support client pitches, and deal execution efforts and perform company and industry specific research to support financial valuations.

    Corporate Banking Internship Program
    The Corporate Banking Internship program is designed to introduce students to the critical, fast-paced environment of Corporate Banking, which involves the structuring and negotiating of credit transactions and cross-selling derivatives, fixed income products, equity capital markets instruments, precious and base metals and foreign exchange.

    Summer interns will be introduced to the stimulating and challenging environment of Corporate Banking, exposing them to credit-related activities in several industry sectors.  Students in the Credit Analytics Group will be given a broad range of assignments in each industry including researching and analyzing financial information, completing borrower credit risk analysis, and assisting with the credit process by participating in transaction analysis.  As Corporate Banking has a limited hierarchy of professionals, students will have the opportunity to interact with professionals at all levels, giving them a broad understanding of how the business operates.

     

    Position Requirements:
    Internships are open to all 3rd and 4th year female students in undergraduate programs from one of the following disciplines: Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. We are looking for candidates with a strong record of achievement in academic and extracurricular activities, robust quantitative and analytical skills, and well-rounded interpersonal and communication skills. Top candidates will demonstrate a high level of energy and a keen desire to learn new concepts, with an interest in the financial markets.
