The Mandate

 

The Vice President, Global Markets Trading Venues & Vendor Systems (The VP), is responsible for defining and executing the strategic technology vision for trading venues and vendor‑based platforms that support the Global Banking & Markets (GBM) business. This role blends deep capital markets expertise with technology leadership, vendor management excellence, and a proven ability to deliver complex, high‑availability trading systems at scale.

 

As a key technology partner to Global Banking Markets leadership the VP plays a critical role in enabling the GBM strategy by ensuring that the bank’s front‑office trading capabilities are resilient, competitive, and positioned to enable revenue growth. 

 

Partnering with business leaders, global technology partners, and external vendors, the VP will leverage differentiated technology to drive strategic initiatives that differentiate the bank’s execution capabilities in the global marketplace.

 

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Partner with business leaders of major GBM growth areas including:  Currency and Commodities (FICC), FX options & Derivatives, Prime & Structured Funding, Collateral Management (Syncova), Operations Technology, Global Wholesale Risk Technology and Prime Services to define and execute on the technology roadmap.
  • Owns end‑to‑end technology strategy and delivery for the Prime Services franchise, spanning Cash and Synthetic Prime Brokerage, Securities Borrowing & Lending, margin, risk, and client reporting, ensuring platforms (CashOne/PrimeOne, SwapOne, LoanOne/GSBL) operate as a cohesive front‑to‑back ecosystem. 
  • Leads modernization of LoanOne / GlobalOne (GSBL) as the strategic securities lending book of record, driving architectural simplification, real‑time position accuracy, improved settlement and fail transparency, tighter integration with downstream risk/finance systems, and reduced manual processing through automation. 
  • Lead the global rollout of Murex, ensuring the platform is leveraged and optimized to standardize processes, increase automation, and advance the bank’s trading, risk, and product capabilities
  • Lead the modernization and optimization of the bank’s trading venue ecosystem and vendor solution platforms, ensuring scalability, operational resilience and regulatory alignment
  • Lead the modernization and implementation of our Digital Assets capabilities within Capital Markets, ensuring interoperability with bank wide digital asset strategy.
  • Ensure that all trading venues and vendor platforms operate with exceptional reliability, performance, and latency management.
  • Build and maintain strong strategic partnerships with technology vendors to ensure service excellence, platform stability and continuous innovation
  • Drive proactive risk management across all platform environments, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, internal controls, and operational risk frameworks.
  • Ensure all technology solutions adhere to enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, data privacy, and data residency standards.
  • Provide thought leadership on modernization, emerging technologies, and strategic opportunities that position the bank for competitive advantage.
  • Champion talent development across Global Banking & Markets and Wealth Technology, creating an environment that attracts, grows, and retains top engineering talent.
  • Lead and drive a customer focused culture across the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Ensure compliance with company technology standards, frameworks and policies regarding solution architecture, security, data privacy and residency.
  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.

 

 

Education / Experience

 

  • University degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of progressively increasing leadership experience in Technology.
  • 5+ years managing strategy, process improvement and global transformations in large organizations, multiple geographies and operating models.
  • Deep understanding of global markets trading workflows (e.g., pricing, execution, order management, market connectivity).
  • Proven experience with Murex or other front‑office vendor platforms, including large‑scale implementation or optimization initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success leading technology teams in an agile or squad‑based model.
  • Strong experience managing third‑party vendors, contracts, and platform ecosystems.
  • Track record delivering complex, high‑availability systems in a regulated environment.
  • Experience with cloud transformation, containerization, microservices, and API‑driven design.
  • Strong technical communication skills with a proven ability to understand key business and technical concepts, and present them based on target audience (e.g. Senior Executives, Architects, Developers).
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate business needs into actionable technology roadmaps.
  • Technology and Digital experience, with an understanding of AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, with exposure to digital transformation is an asset.
  • Executive gravitas with advanced problem solving and communication skills, highly collaborative, a true partner and enabler, strong team player and influencer.
  • Innovative mindset; ability to continually challenge the status quo, inspire a shared vision and promote key values driving urgency and execution, to facilitate a client focused culture within labs and business lines.
