Purpose

 

Provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight for Global Wealth Management (GWM), Global Investment Solutions ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. The position of Chief Investment Strategist, GWM, will report to the SVP, Chief Investment Officer (GWM) and be responsible for wealth solutions architecture, investment strategy, thought leadership, field support and innovation. 

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
  • Oversee the Global Knowledge Centers within GIS, which support all distribution channels and provide thought leadership across GWM by assisting relationship managers with asset allocation, portfolio construction, and proposals
  • Affect a centrally managed, regionally tailored and disciplined investment philosophy that delivers top quartile risk-adjusted outcomes. Responsibilities include strategic/tactical asset allocation and oversight of the equity, fixed income and pooled investment models
  • Oversees all internal and external research, including strategic partnerships that affect KYP and advisor best practices
  • Represents GWM in client meetings, events and media relations as a global thought leader
  • Aligns wealth solutions and capabilities in Canadian and International markets, with a focus on innovation, risk-management, and risk/supervision centers of excellence
  • Service UHNW clients through Global Wealth Intelligence (GWI), our newly created UHNW premium offering that includes data aggregation and oversight of held-away client assets through OCIO services. Champion the development and implementation of GWI to support all GWM distribution channels
  • Establish, oversee, and monitor pan-wealth solutions architecture guidelines, including design, pricing, and best practices, to help foster alignment with local regulations and the risk-appetite of GWM
  • Chairs the Global Wealth Investment Committee, which affects alignment and consistency of thought leadership, field support and product shelves across all distribution channels
  • Drive a "Total Wealth" strategy across GWM’s Global Investment Solutions (GIS) team. Builds and develops deep relationships with relationship managers in GWM, including SWM, IWM, and GFOG
  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team

 

 

Requirements

 

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of investment industry
  • Understands the regulatory framework; has worked with both IIROC and OSC
  • CFA designation, Finance degree and proficiency requirements for registration with regulators
  • 15 years of portfolio management experience, including budgeting and leadership
