Purpose
Provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight of business operations and projects across ScotiaMcLeod. Contributes to the overall success of the business by ensuring strategic objectives are executed effectively and all activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. The role requires effective partnerships with business lines across Wealth, as well as control and support functions. Scope includes: planning & strategy, budgeting and financial oversight, business operations (including real estate), and partnership to drive efficiencies and operational excellence across the CWM portfolio.
The incumbent will be a critical partner to the SVP, Managing Director & Head and will act as a key decision maker.
Accountabilities
- Leads and drives a customer focused culture to enable our teams to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank capabilities, systems and knowledge
- Functions as a key strategic partner to the SVP & Head of ScotiaMcLeod ensuring alignment with top priorities of the Firm to drive business results and achieve strategic growth objectives:
- Creating and managing a medium-term roadmap of strategic priorities
- Acts as the key point of connection between senior management at ScotiaMcLeod and key partners in order to ensure alignment to the achievement of the strategy and achieving business results and growth objectives
- Resolves complex, multi-faceted issues and new business opportunities which are often unstructured and without precedent
- Acts as a primary point of contact for ScotiaMcLeod within the organization and represents ScotiaMcLeod on GWM and bank-wide committees as required
- Leads and oversees complex business projects focused on revenue growth acceleration and operational excellence:
- Provides leadership on strategic priorities (recruiting, strategic M&A, household (HHs), SOW (Share of Wallet) growth) and change management initiatives
- Oversees compensation design for commissioned and variable compensated roles
- Leadership and management of effective management and implementation of all Branch Manager and Advisor compensation policies
- Oversight of Advisor acquisition and transition agreements
- Reporting responsibility for key projects and initiatives, including developing business cases for new initiatives overseeing project implementation KPI measurement
- Develops, executes and maintains operational strategies for ScotiaMcLeod in order to deliver innovative short, medium and long-term solutions
- Represents ScotiaMcLeod with respect to bank-wide strategic technology and operational improvement initiatives:
- Acts as a client and Advisor ‘champion’ on modernization initiatives
- Interacts regularly with the Advisor field and represents ScotiaMcLeod management through participation in Advisor and Advisor team-led feedback mechanisms (SMAB, SSAB)
- Builds key relationships with internal and external partners and consultants. Drive resolution to business issues in a manner that is aligned to strategy and supports the needs of the field and business
- Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams
- Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk
- Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours, communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team
Requirements
The job requires the following to perform the accountabilities of the job:

- Completion of a post-secondary education, Masters an asset
- All relevant industry courses / accreditations – as required by CIRO
- Expert knowledge of the brokerage industry is critical
- Expert knowledge of both the day-to-day and longer-term strategic operational requirements of the firm and industry
- Expert knowledge of the firm’s programs, products, policies, practices, and services
- Expert leadership skills & interpersonal skills to facilitate the development of a positive and effective team environment
- The ability to influence and motivate others is an important aspect of this position
- The incumbent requires the ability to continually challenge the status quo, setting a positive example for change and encouraging others to do the same, to facilitate the achievement of a customer-focused sales culture
- Strong strategic planning, influencing skills
- Strong communication skills
Working Conditions
- Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence
- Limited travel domestically
