Vice President, Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management
Purpose
The Vice President, Sourcing & Supplier Management provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight for their category portfolio globally ensuring Business Line strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
This role is critical to relationship management at the Executive level between GPS and key Business Line/Corporate Function stakeholders; being a designated Point of Contact and key partner to the business/function for all procurement related inquiries/needs.
Accountabilities
- Create business value through the development of high quality and cost-effective supply relationships, while pursuing and championing total cost of ownership (TCO) savings by leveraging Bank-wide purchasing volume, strengthening strategic supplier relationships, employing demand management processes and driving additional value creation by encouraging innovation and/or improvement of the supply management process.
- Develop and maintain relationships with business line and functional leaders to support enterprise objectives, influence key stakeholders and jointly develop sourcing strategies while gaining alignment on sourcing initiatives and projects.
- Responsible for developing and executing long-term, innovative sourcing strategies to deliver value to our stakeholders including the identification of opportunity areas and help implement plans, business cases, etc. to execute opportunities to reduce cost, increase revenue, improve operational efficiencies, and better manage risk.
- Responsible for supplier management of current in-scope suppliers, while deepening/maturing supplier management capabilities to elevate supplier partnerships and outcomes.
- Manage the communications process with suppliers, utilizing various communication forums with internal and externally facing audiences. Ensuring internal communication alignment and protocol with internal stakeholders for consistent supplier messaging and interactions.
- Develop deep and strong category strategies to build category and supplier expertise within GPS, improve categorization of new suppliers, drive expanded supplier coverage and manage categories end to end.
- Participate in the ongoing reassessment of supplier risk frameworks accounting for sensitivity to, and tolerance for, identified supplier risk types (financial, regulatory, operational, reputational, etc.) and external risks (Economic, Social, Legal, Geo/Political, Environment, etc).
- Utilizes standardized measurement and reporting tools for consistent supplier management across BNS, including supplier tracking, analytics, and performance management tools.
- Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Leads a team of performance, contract, financial and risk, and relationship management experts to deliver short- and long-term value to the Bank, providing appropriate support/training to internal staff that manage individual supplier accounts.
- Identify and remain current on emerging trends and technologies, and implications to current suppliers, strategies, and contractual relationships.
- Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
- Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Dimensions
- Team is based across Canada (primary), Caribbean, Mexico and LATAM
- Global portfolio responsibility supporting multiple Business Lines and Executives
- Compliance with regulatory obligations from OSFI, CNBV, OCC, etc and key regulatory guidelines including, but not limited to OSFI B10 and B13
Education / Experience / Other Information
- Minimum 10 years of experience in supplier management is needed, including management of third-party vendors, in-depth sourcing expertise, finance and risk management knowledge.
- Demonstrated expertise leading sourcing and/or supplier relationships at an executive level.
- Five or more years of experience in project/asset management, procurement, and vendor relations is desirable.
- Minimum five years' people management experience is needed with strong people skills — be able to motivate, energize and drive performance of team (direct or matrix management) across geographic locations.
- Deep market knowledge of banking products and services and current trends.
- Strong and proven leadership to establish authority and influence across organizational boundaries, with the goal of understanding political drivers and influencers.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and strategic influencing skills
- Strong client orientation and ability to understand internal and external client needs, lead client-centric teams and drive client-centric decisions.
- Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills to exercise excellent judgement with complex financial issues and use them to inform the creation of effective action plans and supplier strategies
- Strong project and process management skills, with the ability to handle multiple vendors, projects and a wide range of tasks.
- Interpersonal relationship strengths for managing disputes and driving change in vendor behaviors, and creating a working environment where vendors receive incentives to change behaviors to meet performance goals.
- Analytical in their approach to problem solving, with a focus on managing in a team environment with attention to results and with a sense of urgency.
- Knowledge and experience with state-of-the-art procurement and analysis technologies
- Ability to develop and execute complex negotiations including very large outsourcing deals.
- Clear executive presence and results orientation
- Ability to provide both technical and managerial leadership to their organization
- Demonstrated ability to drive rapid and significant change.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager) preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in engineering, CIS, science, business, economics, supply chain or finance
