Purpose

 

The Vice President, Mortgage Operations & Technology provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight for the Mortgage Operations & Technology department in Canada, ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations and internal policies/procedures, while helping to drive business growth and drive operational excellence.
 

The role has a broad scope of responsibility, including overseeing the Home Financing Solutions and eHOME Underwriting Teams, Prefund (All Channels), Non-Branch Funding Teams, Operational Excellence, and all Mortgage Technology systems.

 

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Responsible for ensuring the operations teams are achieving key performance indicators centered around quality, turnaround times, client experience, compliance, and productivity. Responsible for capacity planning to ensure the team is staffed appropriately against forecasted volumes.
     

  • Holds responsibility for leading and sustaining overall operational efficiency and service effectiveness for mortgage operations. Responsible for finding opportunities to eliminate, digitize, or move processes.
     

  • Leads and drives a client focused culture throughout their team and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge to drive initiatives.
     

  • Responsible for driving the RESL digital roadmap - expert in mortgage systems and delivering technology projects leveraging agile methodology. Collaborate with IT&S partners to ensure system stability and deliver system changes to enable business strategy.
     

  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
     

  • Leads the design, development and implementation of initiatives to help drive overall business line and bank wide objectives, including includes increasing mortgage scale, maximizing new client acquisition, maximizing cross sell, and ensuring a consistent and excellent client experience.
     

  • Establishes reporting mechanisms to track and monitor progress, including management dashboards and key performance metrics.
     

  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
     

  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; managing succession and development planning for the team.

 

 

Education / Experience / Other Information

 

  • University degree and relevant work experience

  • Strong people leader with extensive experience in managing and motivating large teams

  • Expert knowledge of mortgage sales and distribution channels, and alignment of these channels, i.e. roles and goals of each stakeholder and how they align to achieve overall Bank objectives

  • Expert knowledge of mortgage funding, prefund, and underwriting platforms and processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of this key process in the client mortgage experience

  • Expert knowledge of technology systems and leading agile teams, and being able to deliver large scale technology initiatives across the business and broader Bank

  • Deep knowledge of driving operational excellence, capacity planning, and continuous improvement

  • Strong project management and analytical skills and the ability to understand large quantities of information from a variety of sources

  • Ability to build strong relationships across the business and broader Canadian Bank

  • Excellent coordination, strategic influencing and people management skills, to facilitate strong teamwork and coordinated execution of multiple deliverables across multi distribution channels

  • Expert knowledge in strategy planning including leading strategy development and coordinating the planning across multiple stakeholders

  • Strong visionary and ability to execute on change management
     

 

Working Conditions

 

  • Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. Some occasional travel domestically.
