Vice President, Investigations, Corporate Security, Legal & Corporate Affairs

 

Purpose

Provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight for Investigations in Corporate Security, ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

 

  • Leads the development of strategic recommendations to support and enhance operational, investigative and administrative business and policy development with the objective of ensuring that all investigations conducted are professional, effective and consistent with Corporate Security Global model.

 

  • Oversees investigations and the development of strategies to prevent loss on assets targeted by criminal groups and to identify and recover assets.

 

  • Provides hands on direction and guidance on highly complex investigations; oversees the investigations and correlation of evidence to support criminal prosecutions and civil actions, as well as identify those responsible and report to the police.

 

  • Monitors trends involving organized crime, including electronic crime, to effectively communicate and recommend risk mitigation strategies to line management

 

  • Leads a comprehensive approach to understanding known and uncertain criminal risks to make sound management decisions and align management approaches at a senior level.

 

  • Fosters and maintains global sources of information and relationships with law enforcement, regulatory and other security organizations to assist in identifying and recommending proactive strategies on new trends and methods of criminal attack against the financial industry.

 

  • Provides counsel, guidance and assistance to line management and employees on all known or suspected technological internal/external crime and civil matters, as well as emergency situations, including threats of a technological nature against staff and customers.

 

  • Collaborates with Fraud Management on the research and development of strategies on electronic risk mitigation and provide expert advice on the state of the Bank’s fraud detection and analysis of systems security and controls on various committees.

 

  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits.   Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.

 

  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and ScotiaBond, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls within Corporate Security to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

 

  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment, using a coaching mindset and behaviours, communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.

Education / Experience / Other Information

  • Post secondary degree in business, law, law enforcement or technology
  • Relevant 10-15 years of experience conducting and managing complex investigations including strong demonstrated interviewing skills
  • Expert knowledge of prevention, detection and response strategies
  • Extensive experience in managing large teams in complex environments
  • Strong understanding of relevant regulatory environments
  • Experience working in complex multi-agency/department environments
  • Expert knowledge of the Bank’s organizational structure, operational environment, systems and best practices
  • Experience managing in a diverse and multi-cultural environment
  • High degree of fluency in English required; French/Spanish desirable.
