The Vice President, International Banking Engineering provides strategic direction, leadership and technology ownership for enterprise global and regional systems supporting International Banking, including customer experience, customer enablement, data engineering, core banking and core business capabilities, across Retail, Commercial and Corporate Banking.
This leadership role leads the co-creation of strategies, plans and the portfolio of initiatives to execute along with the technology architecture and roadmaps for Enterprise Engineering across International Banking (IB), and serves as a steward for Global Software Products and the enablement of the Global Engineering community. This position is also responsible for complex International Technology projects and M&A Integration initiatives across International Banking.
Accountabilities
- Customer Focus: Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- IB Technology and Data Leadership: Support the implementation of the global data strategy within International Banking by leading the creation, strategic roadmaps, continuous delivery, and sustainment of enterprise technology assets. In close collaboration with regional Business teams, local CIOs, and divisional leadership, IB Engineering ensures alignment with global standards while addressing local needs. The scope includes digital customer experiences (mobile and web banking), omni-channel onboarding, data engineering platforms, core banking systems, credit risk APIs, open finance interfaces, and other divisional solutions. This approach enables consistent, scalable, and data-driven innovation across IB markets.
- Enterprise Software Product Engineering: In partnership with Global Engineering Heads and Global Design and Digital Product Management, lead the creation, strategic roadmaps, continuous delivery, and ongoing sustainment for Enterprise Software Products that support customer experience in both International Banking and Canadian Banking. Partner with regional Business and local Technology & Business leadership to align for value delivery and problem-solution fit. Lead the delivery and evolution of centrally built components, and their extension and localization by local teams for specific needs.
- Cash Management Engineering: Provide strategic and engineering leadership from IB to support the global Cash Management program, in close partnership with Global Transactional Banking, local CIOs, and Business stakeholders. Focus on the design, delivery, and continuous evolution of customer-facing and enabling platforms—including mobile banking, web banking, and self-service onboarding. IB Engineering drives the development of core components centrally, while empowering local teams to extend and tailor these assets to meet regional and client-specific needs. This collaborative model ensures consistency, scalability, and innovation across markets.
- Developer Experience and Reuse: Promote engineering practices and capabilities that improve overall developer experience across the enterprise and that scale software and knowledge reuse in the CTO organization, leveraging Generative AI aligned with the global framework to accelerate solution design, documentation, and code generation, while enhancing productivity and consistency across teams.
- Strategic Alignment: Partner with Business and Support Functions Leaders and in-country CIOs in the development of the technology strategy toward modernization, simplification, and scalability, including advancing of Cloud and Cloud native development and global platforms across IB.
- M&A and Integrations: Lead due diligence activities as they relate to IT aspects of potential acquisitions in the International Banking division and the development and implementation of IT Integration Plans for new acquisitions, continually developing and refining best technology practices for M&A Integrations.
- Operational Effectiveness: Responsible for effectiveness and value delivery of platforms and software products in operation, defining, monitoring and management service level indicators and objectives, and driving highly performant engineering practices with a focus on quality, reliability and security.
- Talent Leadership and Development: Responsible for building and managing cross-functional teams of engineers, engineering managers, directors and architects, and other technology staff. Ensure that all teams have correct structure, capacity, tools, and processes to achieve business outcomes.
- Risk Management: Proactively engage with Cyber and IT Risk Management functions to implement and apply enterprise Cyber and IT Risk management processes, methodologies, and proactively reduces risk and stay below appetite for establishes Cyber and IT Risk thresholds. Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Build a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
Education & Experience
- 10+ years of senior leadership experience in enterprise technology and engineering.
- Postgraduate university degree or equivalent; fluent in English and Spanish.
- Deep expertise in software development and design for highly scalable, enterprise-level technology stacks.
- Proven success delivering high-criticality, customer-facing applications and multi-country platforms across Retail, Commercial, and Corporate Banking.
- Advanced knowledge of agile methodologies, continuous delivery, and modern engineering practices.
- Strong command of complex technology domains including hardware, operating systems, sub-system software, communications, and security.
- Skilled in enterprise architecture, cloud-native development, and data engineering platforms.
- Experienced in leading M&A technology due diligence and integration across international markets.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate trends, shape technology roadmaps, and drive modernization.
- Expert in engineering operations, including service level management, performance optimization, and secure delivery.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to align technology strategy to divisional and enterprise goals.
- Highly collaborative, with strong influencing and negotiation skills across business and technology stakeholders.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams across diverse geographies and reporting structures.
- Committed to developer experience and software reuse, leveraging emerging technologies including Generative AI.
- Deep understanding of risk management frameworks and regulatory compliance across international jurisdictions.
