Purpose

 

The Vice President, Global Trade Finance Operations (The VP) is responsible for setting up, building, and operating a successful Global Trade Finance Operations team with oversight of local markets across the Americas, Europe and Asia. Designs, develops, implements, and integrates leading operational models, business architecture and technology solutions to enable the business to achieve targets and sustain performance. 

 

The VP is responsible for ensuring strategies and solutions are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations of each country in which it operates, internal policies and procedures, and fostering a risk culture on the team focused on mitigating risks for clients and the Bank.

 

The VP also sets the overall vision for this operations team, while partnering across the enterprise, including key partners in GTB, the business lines, Technology, Finance, Compliance, Risk Management, and others across the organization to enable team to deliver on its vision.

 

 

 

Accountabilities

 

• Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.

 

• Provides overall leadership of the operational delivery in support of Global Trade Finance Operations across geographies:

 

  • Actively partner with the business to define the scope and optimal operating model to achieve goals and establish a robust roadmap to deliver against business objectives; with focus on ability to scale with pace and standardize the Trade Finance operations function.
  • Lead the concept, design, and overall strategy for the operations for the business leveraging key partnerships across the bank.
  • Establish governance framework with standardized practices/playbooks across hubs/teams to minimize fragmentation, duplication, and manual work arounds.
  • Supports strategic business case development, benefits tracking / realization through feedback on client and operational metrics around support and service.
  • Critical product owner, influence the technology solutions selection, enhancements, and upkeep to meet evolving needs and demands of the portfolio and enable data driven decision making.
  • Ensure the efficient delivery of operations: sets guidelines and develops, measures, and acts on key performance indicators and service level agreements.
  • Guarantee the consistency and quality of the customer experience across all channels.
  • Drive an enhanced stakeholder experience by minimizing risks to both parties and the Bank through active monitoring, analysis, and enhancements of operations, tools, instruments, and procedures throughout the customer journey.
  • Serve as thought leader and trusted business advisor to senior management and various stakeholders.

 

 

• Develop strategies to evolve, optimize, and mature the operational model by creating and executing against a roadmap, embedding resiliency and striving to increase efficiency through process improvements, automation, standardization, and straight through processing.

 

• Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.

 

• Ensures that operational risks (including AML/ATF and Sanctions) are assessed and contained, while executing deals/transactions within the products and regions under scope. Also ensures that senior management is aware of any potential breaches in risks promptly, taking containment/remedial action as appropriate.

 

• Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.

 

• Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

 

• Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.

 

 

 

Education / Experience

 

  • MBA, Certified Credit Professional or designation such as ACAMS is an asset.

 

  • Solid background and experience in Global Trade Finance.

 

  • Knowledge of corporate credit and trade finance products.

 

  • High awareness of lending regulations, AML/ATF/Sanctions regulations, ICC rules for Trade Finance.

 

  • Knowledge of Spanish and / or French is an asset.
