Purpose

 

The Vice President, Enterprise Architecture & Modernization (the VP), will be a key role in driving Scotiabank’s technology transformation vision and associated operational strategies. The VP will lead a senior team with the shared objective of understanding and applying existing and emerging technologies to transform and optimize the technology landscape. The VP will work across Scotiabank, and its business subsidiaries, to develop target IT and business architectures and modernization opportunities, to accelerate delivery and promote reuse.

 

 

Accountabilities

 

Enterprise Architecture and Modernization Practice

 

  • Define, track, and oversee an EA framework that defines principles, standards, and global technology target state reference architectures and patterns for core capabilities to be adopted across the organization.
  • Steward the Enterprise Architecture and Modernization practice to develop and maintain technology roadmaps that outlines the bank's current and future technology landscape. These roadmaps help guide decision-making around technology investments, system integration, and modernization efforts.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of architecture strategies and best practices across the organization, and ensure that technology solutions adhere to security, regulatory, and compliance requirements while promoting interoperability and scalability.
  • Lead a progressive program of modernization initiatives concurrently and oversee the execution of those projects (e.g., Cloud Migration, Data & Analytics/AI, ML/Automation, Front & Back Office Transformation, Core Transformation, etc.)
  • Create and govern core enterprise models – including Scotiabank’s Technology and Business Capability Model, Enterprise Information Model, and Technology Reference Model (EPM/APM).
  • Promote EA as a consultative and problem-solving resource across broad areas of business and IT.
  • Lead and provide guidance to Enterprise and Chief Architects (and their teams) on defining technical capabilities, domain, and solution architectures, managing complexity, and driving domain rationalization and simplification.

 

Technology Leadership

 

  • Provide thought leadership on modernization based on awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies, and present opportunities to senior technology and business leaders to drive innovation.
  • Apply business & technical acumen, knowledge, and experience to drive new ways of thinking about issues to resolve highly complex technical and business challenges.
  • Ensure adherence to standards, controls, and overall risk posture of the organization.
  • Design, implement and enforce governance strategies and tools for use across the enterprise.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and assesses their potential impact on the bank's operations, and provide recommendations for technology adoption, vendor selection, and vendor management.
  • Manage the impact of technology changes on the bank's employees, processes, and stakeholders. Enterprise architecture assists in defining change management strategies, ensuring smooth transitions, and minimizing disruption during technology implementations or upgrades.

 

Cultural Leadership

 

  • Provide leadership to a progressive and exceptionally engaged team of senior architects and related technology professionals across the global technology practice.
  • Build organizational capability by developing new leaders through both mentorship and structured development programs.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.

 

 

 

Education / Experience

 

  • +10 years of experience working on end-to-end technology architecture, application support and deployment, preferably within financial services.
  • Delivery of large-scale complex programs at pace, developing high performing interchanging teams to support delivery at each stage.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent judgment and analytical skills.
