Position: Vice President, Culture & Inclusion
Purpose
Provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight for the Culture and Inclusion COE, ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
- The Vice President, Culture & Inclusion leads our global efforts in cultivating a workplace where every employee feels seen, heard, and valued.
- A strategic visionary, with a strong enterprise mindset, the VP shapes and drives the cultural evolution of our organization, embedding inclusion, equity, and belonging into every facet of our employee experience, leadership behaviors, and business practices.
- As a key member of the Talent Strategy leadership team, the VP is a role model for our ScotiaBond values and partners across geographies and functions to build a unified, values-driven culture that supports the global business strategy and reflects our global footprint.
Accountabilities
Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Global Inclusion
- Acts as a strategic advisor to Scotiabank s senior management teams, providing thought leadership on emerging Global Inclusion trends, advising senior leaders on cultural dynamics, inclusive leadership, and change readiness.
- Defines success metrics, tracks progress across culture and inclusion initiatives reporting outcomes to executive leadership and the Board.
- Leads the Global Inclusion COE overseeing the design, development and the implementation of a global inclusion roadmap across the enterprise, addressing systemic barriers, influencing strategic change through diagnostics, stakeholder engagement, cross-functional alignment, accountability and program delivery to advance Scotiabank s Employment Equity Plan commitments.
- Maintains awareness of future/emerging equity & inclusion trends, best practices and regulatory developments through diverse networks, peer groups, and regulatory partnerships including the Canadian Human Rights Commission to report on equity commitments. Partners with regional leaders to ensure cultural relevance and local impacts.
- Leads the execution of strategic priorities across Talent, Customer and Communities pillars connected to driving inclusion efforts across the enterprise and partners closely with HR, brand, marketing & communications, and external networks to accelerate inclusion impact globally (i.e., build a stronger external presence with communities and key global, national or local partners for maximum impact).
Culture
- Leads the development and execution of the Bank s multi-year culture transformation program, embedding Scotiabank values and behaviours in the overall ways of working across the bank Leads enterprise initiatives focused on building enterprise mindset, trust, innovation, and agile ways of working into our organizational DNA globally.
Employee Listening
- Leads enterprise-wide listening strategies to surface actionable insights through surveys, focus groups, town halls, and sentiment analysis. Drive the co-creation of impactful solutions in partnership with ERGs, Inclusion Councils, and cross-functional teams translating employee insights into meaningful actions that elevate the employee experience and foster a culture of belonging.
- Design and deliver workforce analytics that provide deeper understanding of our workforce composition, and help inform talent trends, champion a sense of belonging across the enterprise, shape culture evolution, and guide executive decision-making.
- Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicate the Bank s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
- Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
- Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.
Education / Experience
- Seasoned business executive working with global organizations with experience in culture, Equity & Inclusion, organizational development and leadership.
- Proven success leading global culture and inclusion strategies in complex, matrixed organizations and deep understanding of cultural nuances, intersectionality, and systemic equity.
- Ability to translate strategy into actionable plans and results.
- Strong project and change management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects/changing priorities concurrently under tight timelines and with multiple stakeholders. Intellectual curiosity around best-in-class Equity and Inclusion practices (inside and outside the Bank).
- Deep knowledge of performance management processes and how to drive the cultural and behavioral changes needed to enable a high-performance work positive culture.
- Experience building and fostering strategic partnerships and leading a team of thought leaders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, listening, facilitation and presentation skills; to collaborate with all levels within the organization.
- Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of total rewards programs and human resources policies, practices and standards.
- Passionate about promoting equity and inclusion, and driving a performance culture.
- Requires interaction with an increasingly broad range of stakeholders (internal and external) to influence results and lead implementation of programs.
- Proven success in leading high-performing teams, motivating others to perform at their best and building relationships with diverse stakeholders. Resilient and adaptive to evolving business needs.
- Highly motivated and results oriented, with ability to operate independently.
- Experience in ESG, social impact, or purpose-drive business strategy considered an asset.
- Fluency in Spanish and cross-cultural experience considered an asset.
