Title:  UX Designer, Information Architecture, Digital Factory

Requisition ID: 25574

The Digital Factory is an innovation hub with a clear and well-supported mandate to transform the way banking technology is delivered, by re-imaging the customer experience, to deliver new digital value propositions. We have the support and experience of one of the world’s largest banks behind us and a talented, and growing, team of industry leaders driving us forward.
Do you want to help us reinvent how people bank? At the Scotiabank Digital Factory, we are passionate about transforming the customer experience.

We’re looking to fill our team with influencers, makers, creators and leaders who are flexible, curious, adventurous, versatile and responsive; and who are ready to roll up their sleeves in a collaborative and productive environment to get things done.

By joining our team, you will make an impact on our customers, the banking industry, and ultimately, the world.

About the UX Designer

  • You will act as design owner through conception, build and release of features large and small
  • You will understand our users, leveraging rigorous design research and usability principles as well as your intuitive design sense
  • You are able to synthesize research outcomes into viable product experiences
  • You will meticulously consider user interactions and journeys and act as an advocate for the constant improvement of both

Are you the right person for this role?

  • You want to greatly influence the design aesthetic of experiences that touch 23 million users every day
  • You are open, persuasive, engaging and love to have a good laugh – you also know when it’s important to get serious and be a champion for the end user
  • You have a positive and resilient personality. You must be able to embrace feedback and have a desire for continuous iteration and improvement
  • You’re a fast learner who has an appetite to learn what’s behind both simple and complex financial solutions
  • You’re comfortable working in a self-guided manner, within tight timeframes, and working creatively within specific constraints

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed?

  • Minimum 5 years experience as a UX designer, with an emphasis on the ability to communicate information architecture techniques
  • A demonstrable portfolio of work (professional and personal) which showcases the applications you’ve worked on and includes examples of your story-telling skills, from low-fidelity sketches through to detailed designs
  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite or Sketch, along with proficiency in at least one type of prototyping software (Axure, Proto.io, etc.)
  • Ability to plot and map a user journey from product discovery through enrollment, down multiple engagement routes and through to journey completion
  • A demonstrable history of applying design thinking tenants and user centered design principles to challenges at work or in everyday life
  • Ability to work within a brand and style toolkit with a desire to push existing standards to the next level

It would also be cool if you:

  • Can build and execute design research methodologies or user testing protocols in a rapid development environment
  • Have an interest in tangential fields like typography, design research, big data, fine art, music, writing and communications, etc.
  • Have a background in Fintech or other financial related products

What's in it for you?

  • We have an inclusive and collaborative working environment that encourages creativity, curiosity, and celebrates success!
  • We provide you with the tools and technology needed to create beautiful customer experiences
  • Dress codes don't apply here, being comfortable does
  • You'll get to work with and learn from diverse industry leaders, who have hailed from top technology companies around the world
  • This isn't your typical "corporate" job. We work hard and we have fun!
  • We offer a competitive total rewards package that includes a base salary, a performance bonus, company matching programs (on pension & profit sharing), 4 weeks of vacation, personal & sick days, paternity/maternity leave top-ups and much more.
