Purpose:


The Trading Solutions Group (TSG) is the Scotia Wealth Management (SWM) agency trading desk. TSG supports SWM business lines by executing client orders and providing guidance on prevailing market conditions and execution strategies intended to achieve optimal pricing.


The Trader, Fixed Income contributes to the overall success of the division by executing individual and departmental responsibilities effectively in support of business objectives.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:


Trade Execution


• Provide trade execution support, market insights and execution guidance to SWM businesses.
• Ensure SWM business representatives understand the risks, rewards and potential outcomes associated with a transaction.
• Educate Wealth Advisors and other SWM business representatives on regulatory requirements, market practices, internal compliance requirements and TSG procedures related to trade execution.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on the products traded by the team and participate in resolving related trading, compliance and operational issues.
• Support TSG’s client-focused culture by developing and maintaining strong relationships with Wealth Advisors and other Global Wealth Management business representatives.


Risk Management


• Understand Scotiabank’s risk appetite, risk culture, and apply the Bank’s risk mitigation strategies and processes to day-to-day trading activities and decisions.
• Conduct all activities in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, Code of Conduct and Global Sales Principles.
• Maintain current knowledge of markets, products, competitors and regulatory developments.
• Conduct all business in accordance with applicable internal and external guidelines, policies, rules and regulations.
• Identify and escalate control gaps to TSG management to support the mitigation of operational risk.
• Ensure trades are completed in accordance with the regulatory requirements and business rules applicable to the underlying product.
• Book trades accurately, promptly and in accordance with market conventions, while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail.
• Identify, address, document and escalate trading errors as appropriate.
• Maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethics when trading and handling sensitive or confidential information.
• Assist TSG Supervision with regulatory and operational risk inquiries from Wealth Compliance and internal risk groups.
• Participate in the daily Scotia Capital foreign exchange reconciliation process to help manage the firm’s FX risk exposures. 


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:


• Five years of experience in the securities and/or banking industry; previous trading experience is preferred.
• Current CIRO licensing as a Representative is required in this role.
• University degree in business, economics, engineering or a related field.
• Relevant industry courses, including the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and Conduct and Practices Handbook (CPH).
• Knowledge of technology supporting trading and trading operations, ideally including Broadridge, Charles River, Bloomberg, MarketAxess and Bloomberg TOMS.
• Sound judgment and strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work autonomously while maintaining close and effective working relationships.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to negotiate resolutions to disputes.


Work Arrangement:


• Fast-paced trading floor environment with volatile financial markets, tight deadlines, changing priorities and business-critical strategic initiatives.
• Longer-than-standard working hours may be required to manage deadlines, business priorities and client events.
