Title:  Technology and Digital Lead - Compliance Transformation

Purpose of Job:

Scotiabank’s newly created Compliance Transformation Program Office (“TPO”) is seeking an innovative Technology and Digital Lead to join our team. We are building a leading, best-in-class Global Compliance function to maintain customer trust and protect the Bank’s reputation.


Reporting to the SVP, Compliance, Strategic Initiatives, the incumbent will join a dynamic, new team to contribute to the design of a Future State Compliance function which will align with Scotiabank’s digital banking ambitions.


Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Develop Compliance Technology & Digital Strategy, with a focus on establishing global, enterprise-wide Compliance technology capabilities required for timely, risk and cost effective management of current and future regulatory obligations.
  • Bring innovation and futuristic thinking to evaluate technology needs for the Future State vision of a world-class Compliance function.
  • Partner with Compliance Subject Matter Experts (“SMEs”), Data Specialists and Process Engineers to design the Future State Compliance model for risk assessment, issues management, monitoring, testing, reporting, and analytics.
  • Collaborate with the Bank’s IT&S department, Digital Factory and Enterprise Innovations team to leverage enterprise capabilities.
  • Evaluate new technologies to facilitate the delivery of regulatory requirements by leveraging partnerships with RegTechs.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to build partnerships and create a shared vision and commitment for transformation.
  • Champion a high performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • Assist with the planning, delivery, & implementation of technology solutions.  


Education / Experience / Other Information:

  • 10-15 years of IT and compliance / risk work experience with track record of implementing technology solutions within a large financial institution.   
  • Innovative thinker with strong strategic and critical thinking skills
  • Strong understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements relating to compliance technology
  • Curiosity and understanding about emerging technologies (machine learning, block chain, etc.)  
  • High capacity and driven to action
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Must be a creative, self-starting, results-oriented and highly motivated individual
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Experience working on programs with operational impact
  • A degree in engineering, business or equivalent experience in business, technology, or math
