Reporting to the Senior Manager Development, the Technical Business Analysis Advisory applies Investment Products knowledge with strong business analysis and technology skills, and applies their knowledge of financial products and the Investment Platform application to conduct the research and analysis required for both project development to create complex functional specifications and application maintenance/ production support.
Additionally, as active participants in the Quality Assurance (QA) process through testing or supporting Quality Assurance Testing (QAT) and debugging of new packaged solutions or enhancements to the existing application.
Investment Systems Solutions provides stewardship for the end to end design of the Investment Platform application from an application and infrastructure perspective. The Investment Platform is a core banking system which provides transactional support and record keeping for cash, GIC’s and Mutual Funds on behalf of Retail Deposits, Scotia Securities and Scotia Asset Management.
Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
- Apply strong acumen of investments products in retail banking, the applicable regulatory bodies, as well as registered and non-registered plan account types.
- Collaborating with business partners and development or QAT colleagues with a continual focus on Customer Success.
- Collaborating with business partners, development team and vendors in assessing, triaging and resolution of production issues.
- Creating, documenting and executing test strategies/test functions/test cases and/or supporting QAT through the testing cycle.
- Continually acquiring and enhancing knowledge of business strategies, policies, product offerings, financial instruments and regulatory industry changes.
- Leading walkthroughs of functional specification documents.
- Research and analysis leading to the completion of functional specifications documents.
- Independently resolving and documenting complex problems to meet business needs.
- Providing guidance and advice to developers to meet project objectives.
- Understanding interfaces with current Bank systems.
- Actively participating in the systems implementation process.

- Acquire at least 7 years of progressive working experience with technical business analysis in a Waterfall / Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) environment.
- Employ strong working experience or knowledge of investments in retail banking, the applicable regulatory bodies, as well as registered and non-registered plan account types.
- Possess excellent problem solving skills and an innovative approach to solutions with the ability to convey these ideas.
- Embody the ability to use diplomacy, judgment and persuasion to secure agreement and co-operation from business users and a dynamic project team.
- Working experience in the financial services industry or with Core Banking applications is an asset.
- Exposure to working in an Agile environment would be an asset.
- An asset to have a background with QAT + work with SQL & XML files.
