Contributes to the overall success of a Scotiatrust Taxation Services unit in Canada ensuring specific

individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and

objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and




• Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank

relationships, systems and knowledge.

• Works with the Manager/Senior Manager, Taxation – National Operations & Administration to lead and

oversee the Taxation Services national database, ensures compliance with all withholding and remitting

deadlines, tracks all regulatory tax filings, and ensures timely collection of tax preparation fees on a

national basis.

• Works with the Manager/Senior Manager, Taxation – National Operations & Administration, to drive the

ongoing refinement and development of workflows, policies, and procedures by identifying opportunities

that create a more efficient and consistent approach to service delivery that improves the quality of the

client, employee, and partner experiences.

• Works with the Manager/Senior Manager, Taxation – National Operations & Administration, to drive the

implementation of key change initiatives, works to develop project plans, either independently or in

conjunction with other project planning resources, and helps lead the design of new processes and

business solutions.

• Provides on-going technology and operational support to the Taxation Services units on a national basis

• Primary department contact for all clients, partners, and new business prospects.

• Allocates, monitors and reviews all tax returns prepared by Associate Tax Officers, Tax Administrators,

and seasonal staff to ensure completeness and accuracy and to minimize risk.

• Provides on-going guidance, motivation and tax technical coaching, constructive performance feedback

to the Associate Tax Officers, Tax Administrators, and seasonal staff.

• Performs key tax preparation functions by preparing the most complex tax returns.

• Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities

and decisions.

• Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring thorough

knowledge of, and strict adherence to, the Bank’s Global Sales Practices, ensuring the adequacy,

adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to

operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to

responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk

Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Education / Experience / Other Information

  • Previous employment within a tax unit servicing individuals, trusts, and corporations

• Post-secondary degree or diploma

• May be working towards an accounting designation

• Has completed the STEP or CSI Taxation Courses and keeps up-to-date with respect to legislative changes, particularly the frequent changes to the taxation of individuals, estates, trusts, corporations, and registered charities

• Excellent computer skills are required, particularly in the use of tax preparation programs and Advanced skills in MS Office, Salesforce and the Broadridge Trust System
