The team:

Scotiabank’s Global Technology Services (GTS) - Infrastructure Operations – Global Fixed Income and Commodities application support team is responsible for providing technical support on the bank’s various mission critical trading systems.

 

The role:

  • As part of a team, you will provide technical support for mission critical applications such as Fixed Income systems, Commodities trading systems, on both production and non-production environments. Your responsibilities include technical trouble shooting and providing solutions to complex issues, plus work on capacity planning and providing recommendations. You will be collaborating with Business Analyst team and Develop teams on a daily basis, in problem solving.  This role will also include project work and interacting with multiple team members, as well as other teams.

 

  • This role is shift based, and there is occasional overtime for after hours or weekend work. Also, rotational 24x7 on-call support.

  • You embrace 2nd level technical support on production issues, participating in Incident Management / Problem Management / Change Management; and working on security vulnerabilities as part of the audit and compliance requirements.
  • You get to work on applications running on Solaris or, Linux operating systems, on physical servers or virtual hosts including LDoms, VMware and Cloud.
  • You will monitor the environment and identify any issues which could be of a risk and then rectify.
  • You will be working in a complex environment supported by multiple teams, which means good communication and collaboration skill is crucial.
  • You will need to use your troubleshooting skills to solve production issues regularly.
  • You provide assistance to project management functions during all stages of requirements rollout including assessment, planning, initiation, implementation and management.
  • As part of your “DNA”, you are detail-oriented, proactive, have an eagerness to learn and thrive on challenges.
  • You will work on automation using Ansible for implementing changes, patching, fixing security vulnerabilities.
  • You will participate in semi-annual Disaster Recovery (DR) fail over testing on regular basis as outlined in the banks policies and procedures, to ensure DR functionality. And, when required, update the policies and procedures as required.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

  • You can demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • You have good understanding and knowledge in the administration, configuration & software builds in a large enterprise environment.
  • You have at least 5+ years of hands-on technical working experience with the system administration, installation, configuration & troubleshooting of Solaris (versions 10/11) and Red Hat Linux (versions 6/7) Operating Systems.
  • You have hands-on technical working experience with Tidal job scheduler.
  • You have good understanding and knowledge on Automation (Ansible).
  • You have good understanding and knowledge on monitoring tool (Splunk, Dynatrace, etc)
  • You have in-depth knowledge with Network Information Service (NIS), Network File System (NFS), Solaris Zones & Solaris Logical Domains (LDOMS).
  • You possess very good scripting capabilities (e.g., shell, perl) to complete day to day UNIX tasks.
  • You have good problem solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • You can work well under pressure with time constraints and can prioritize competing priorities appropriately.
  • You have completed a post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering or in a related field of study.
