Job Title: Manager, Modernization and Strategic Projects


The Team 
The incumbent is responsible for delivering complex and large technology related strategic initiatives, programs and projects across international banking, leading large cross-functional teams to ensure these are implemented on time, within budget, and aligned with the organization’s strategic objectives.
The Role 
The incumbent must have extensive knowledge of the industry and should be recognized for business acumen by the business partners supported. The position requires excellent oral and written Spanish and English skills, solid understanding of technologies, project management and life-cycle development methodologies, as well as technical architectures pertaining to the area. The incumbent will have excellent skills in relationship and general business management.


Some of the key accountabilities include:
1.    Delivers large and complex technology related strategic initiatives, programs, and projects across International Banking, ensuring these are implemented on time and within budget. 
2.    Ensures project status are accurately depicted and major execution risks or issues are identified and addressed on a timely basis.  This includes ensuring at the project outset:
•    Balanced consideration of business strategies, technical and application architectural standards and emerging solutions
•    Articulation of key project risks and risk-mitigation plans to ensure quality delivery of assigned strategic initiatives, programs, and projects on time and on budget
•    Management of the delivery process, development of a consolidated project plan incorporating  business lines as required, technology and operational aspects of the project. Development of the project critical path such that priorities can be set and adjusted with awareness of the potential impact on quality, cost or timeliness.
3.    Proactively identifies key issues that could potentially impact project objectives and contributes to the development and creation of alternative creative solutions to mitigate them in a satisfactory, timely and cost-effective manner
4.    Sustains highly motivated groups with diverse and multifunctional reporting units, including external parties. This includes consistently maintaining the momentum of the project or program in the background of changing and occasionally conflicting priorities.
5.    Ensures consistent project risk management and delivery across all assigned strategic initiatives, programs and projects.  Assesses and and manages cultural differences that can potentially impact delivery timelines and costs.
6.    Communicates ongoing project status, completing monthly Project Status Reports and escalating issues to his/hers immediate supervisor,  the Business Sponsor, IT&S Sponsor, the Head, or EVP, IT&S as required. Ensures the documentation and archiving of project activities, deliverables, tools and finders for use in future projects.
7.    In the context of managing programs, the position requires:
•    Identification and management of dependencies between individual projects in the program
•    Identification and management of the overall critical path
•    Sufficient understanding of the business environment in order to asses the impacts on multiple businesses and/or geographies, and establish project sequence and priority accordingly
•    Understanding the technical environment in order to assess operational risk associated with various solution and implementation options. 



What You Will Bring to Succeed 

The Manager, Modernization and Strategic Projects, must have a demonstrated competence in technology solutions related to the financial industry in order to understand and assess the critical milestones and activities required to cost effectively deliver optimal solutions. Strong business knowledge is required in order to contribute towards solutions that best balance technology and process improvement to meet business objectives. This is to be coupled with the ability to effectively project manage a multiple number of projects of varying complexity in a sophisticated matrix management organization. To be effective, solid knowledge of the Bank’s formal and informal organization structure is imperative.
Excellent facilitation and interviewing skills are required to ensure that creative solutions are developed to resolve complex problem situations. 
Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills in both English & Spanish are a key requirement of the role as well as the ability to deliver presentations to groups and various levels of line management. (Individually or in committee); chairing meetings involving diverse Bank organizations and management levels; and dealing with vendors/consultants. He/she must have an ability to balance competing or conflicting goals of various departments/stakeholders, requiring a mature, diplomatic approach and highly developed negotiation and influencing skills.
Influencing skills and negotiation skills are also critical in order to negotiate with project team members/management to acquire/maintain support to negotiate priorities with full consideration and awareness of potential impact on business needs and outcomes

 

Required Experience:
•    Fully Bilingual Spanish and English oral and written skills
•    3 - 5 years’ experience in the financial services industry, managing projects that have significant IT and operational components.
•    Working familiarity with project management methodologies
•    Bachelor’s degree in technology
•    PMP Designation an asset.
