The Team

As a member of the Financial Crimes and Operational Risk Engineering (FCORE) team, the Performance and Capacity Engineer will work as part of FCORE SRO team that will work with Senior management, peers, and business partners to continuously improve the stability, reliability and efficiency of our Global systems through Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) based principles and practices that will include managing and maintaining end-to-end performance for all applications, workloads and environments, continuous people, process and technology (automating all the things) enhancements in support of our rapidly changing technology product portfolio. 

 

The Role:

You will work cross-functionally amongst a variety of teams and be a contributor in all significant engineering service or solutions delivered to FCORE business partners and their stakeholders.  You will also have an understanding ‘what could go wrong’, help to solve complex problems and have a flare for communicating and participating in discussions with technical and business partners. You will work directly with our Software Engineering teams to both maintain and operate our existing technology and help manage and maintain end-to-end performance for all applications, workloads and environments.

 

Some of the Key Accountabilities include:

  • Work in collaboration with Software Engineering, Quality, Product and Data Engineering teams to Champion SRE/ DevOps culture and practices.
  • Provide technical leadership in the design, development and support of Application Performance Management tools and processes following industry best practices.
  • Instrument Service Level Indicators and Service Level Objectives for

critical customer journeys within the FCORE application portfolio.

  • Analyze performance data and act on negative performance trends to identify root cause.
  • Utilize your ability to implement and exploit performance tools from 3rd party vendors; plus participate in the technical assessments of 3rd party tools and vendors.
  • Consult with the development teams on large projects to provide Performance and capacity Management services, ensuring –
    • There are no monitoring gaps
    • The design has been optimized from a cost perspective
    • The accuracy of the capacity plan
    • The completeness of the stress testing process
  • Firefighting/troublshooting of production problems that are performance related.

 

 

What You Will Bring to Succeed:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience. ITIL V3 Foundation Cert. in ITSM would be an asset.
  •  8 + years’ experience in IT.
  • 2-3 years professional programming experience in one or more of the following: C, C++, Java would be asset.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on technical working experience in performance tuning and capacity planning.
  • 1-2 years professional solution architecture experience.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on technical working experience in managing Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Microsoft Azure hosted infrastructure & systems.
  • 2+ years of technical working knowledge of containers technology, such as Docker, PCF, and Kubernetes.
  • At least 2 years of technical working knowledge in CI/CD development, such as BitBucket, Jenkins, Artifactory, and Ansible
  • Well-rounded broad knowledge of OS platforms (Linux/UNIX), Networking, Web Systems and IT Ops
  • Ability to research and understand new technologies independently.
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written). The ability to communicate confidently and clearly on conference calls, in meetings, via email, etc. at all levels of the organization is essential
