The Team

As a member of the Financial Crimes and Operational Risk Engineering (FCORE) team, the Software Engineer will work in collaboration with a team that will work with Senior management, Software & Operations Engineering teams, peers, and business partners to continuously improve the stability, reliability and efficiency of our Global systems through Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) based principles and practices that will include assisting with continuous people, process and technology (automating all the things) enhancements in support of our rapidly changing technology product portfolio. 

 

The Role

The Software Engineer will work cross-functionally amongst a variety of teams and be a contributor in all significant engineering service or solutions delivered to FCORE business partners and their stakeholders.  The successful candidate will work closely with the various stakeholders including FCORE Software Engineering, business partners in Anti-Money Laundering Operations, Compliance, Architecture, and Infrastructure and Application Support teams to enhance the stability and resiliency of the applications within FCORE. The successful individual will also drive analytics, reporting and dashboard creation and maintenance for SRO/FCORE key performance metrics.

 

Some of the Key Accountabilities include

  • Work in collaboration with Software Engineering, Quality, Product and Data Engineering teams to help Champion SRE/ DevOps culture and practices.
  • Working closely regional architecture boards, assist in championing the definition and implementation of resilience patterns and policies for new and existing FCORE solutions.
  • Assist and participate in initiatives to continuously refine, build, plan and deploy practices for improved stability, reliability, efficiency, repeatability and security. You’ll help to create plans, collaborate with DevOps team members - coordinating activity with development and business leads to increase and maintain Service level Objectives adherence, governance and reporting.
  • Working closely with Development and operations teams to assist troubleshooting of our most severe incidents – contributing senior stakeholder communication, driving problem-solving (e.g., log analysis, non-invasive tests) and debugging with best practice techniques.
  • Assisting and contributing to continuous improvement and execution of quality and timely major incident root cause analysis and blameless post mortem activities to ensure we take action to avoid similar problems in the future.
  • Contribute to In-depth data analysis to gauge service trends and drive improvements.
  • Play a key role in proactive communication of reliability, stability and efficiency results (based on Service Level Objectives), service health (via dashboards) key reliability risks and issues to our technology and business stakeholders
  • Assisting in improving infrastructure automation, efficiency, and cost.
  • Creating and maintaining various reports and dashboards in Power BI, Dynatrace and Splunk.

 

What You Will Bring to Succeed

  • 5+ years Java application development experience including analysis, design, coding and testing
  • Strong knowledge of Javascript/Typescript, jQuery, HTML and CSS
  • Advanced knowledge of building and consuming web services, Restful APIs, JSON and XML data payloads
  • Good knowledge of relational database tables, queries, functions and stored procedures (T-SQL, PL/SQL)
  • General knowledge of UNIX-family operating systems
  • Working knowledge of JIRA, Git, Bitbucket, Confluence
  • Working knowledge of Oracle products would be a great asset
  • Experience with DevOps, Jenkin and CI/CD would be an asset
  • Experience with multiple development languages (Python, Ruby, Powershell, Go, etc.) would be an asset
  • Must be self-motivated and have excellent communication skills
