The Role

The incumbent will contribute to the overall success of the Securities Settlements, Asset Servicing & Physicals (SSASP) unit within Global Wholesale Operations by providing expert advisory on securities clearing and settlements, ensuring robust controls, operational efficiency, and alignment with GBM business strategy through process optimization and risk management. As part of the North American Settlements team and is responsible for the settlement of Canadian and US securities (repos, bonds, equities) with CDS and DTC depositories for Canadian legal entities. in collaboration with the SSASP teams and other stakeholders.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Act as a trusted advisor to GBM, Front Office, Technology, and Risk partners on settlement processes, operating models, and associated risks.
  • Assess current operations to identify gaps, risks, and optimization opportunities, and recommend solutions aligned to business, regulatory, and control requirements.
  • Support the design and implementation of process improvements, control enhancements, and transformation initiatives to improve efficiency, scalability, and client outcomes.
  • Ensure effective risk identification, control design, and issue remediation, including escalation and root cause analysis, in line with the Bank’s risk appetite and control frameworks.
  • Leverage metrics, reporting, and analytics to monitor business performance, provide visibility into operational health, and support data-driven decision-making and capacity optimization.
  • Execute oversight of key settlement activities, ensuring timely processing, accurate books and records, and proactive management and escalation of fail trades.
  • Lead or contribute to cross-functional initiatives and change programs, ensuring effective delivery, stakeholder alignment, and adoption.
  • Maintain strong expertise in securities markets, products, and settlement processes, providing guidance and thought leadership to stakeholders and teams.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence, driving process optimization and efficiency across the function.
  • Operate in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles, ensuring effective management of operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of capital markets products and operations
  • Experience in capital markets
  • Experienced in reconciliation and driving operational efficiency
  • Able to deliver results on time
  • Minimum of university undergraduate degree in Finance, business-related studies or equivalent
  • Advanced computer skills, particularly MS Office Suite, SQL and VBA
