Title: Senior Solutions Engineer
Requisition ID: 267261
Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.
The Windows Workstation OS Platform Principal Engineer & Technical Product Owner is a senior technical expert and product owner for the physical Windows workstation estate (laptops and desktops) across the enterprise. This role owns the platform end to end from a design, solutioning, engineering, and product perspective, so that the Windows client behaves as a resilient, secure, and high-performing service rather than a collection of disconnected settings.
This role leads the technical design and solutioning for the Windows workstation platform. It defines and evolves target-state solution designs, reference designs, engineering standards, and design patterns for how Windows is provisioned, configured, secured, delivered, and operated. It works within the Bank’s architecture direction and standards, partnering with the Architecture function rather than duplicating it, and translates architectural intent into practical, buildable Windows workstation solutions.
The role is defined by genuine mastery of what Windows actually is: the servicing model and release cadence, the boot and sign-in sequence, the kernel and user-mode boundary, servicing stacks and update mechanics, provisioning, policy, security baselines, and the telemetry that explains real-world behavior. The person in this role is a recognized Windows expert who shapes technical direction and reference designs for the Windows client and owns how those decisions land in production.
Critically, this role is forward-looking. It is expected to track the Windows roadmap continuously, understand upcoming features and servicing changes before they arrive, and translate what is coming into practical, sequenced design and solutioning decisions for the Bank’s workstation fleet. Awareness of the roadmap is treated as a core responsibility, not a nice-to-have.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
• Leads the technical design and solutioning for the Windows workstation estate, defining and evolving target-state solution designs, reference designs, engineering standards, and design patterns for provisioning, configuration, compliance, application delivery, security, and lifecycle.
• Produces buildable, well-documented solution designs that are secure by design, scalable, and supportable, and that align to the Bank’s architecture direction, risk appetite, regulatory requirements, and technology-governance standards.
• Partners with the Architecture function to apply and inform enterprise architecture and standards, translating architectural intent into practical Windows workstation solutions without duplicating or overlapping the Architecture team’s mandate.
• Acts as technical product owner for the Windows workstation estate, owning the product vision, the technical backlog, and the sequencing of engineering work from concept through build, deployment, and steady-state operations.
• Translates business outcomes, user-experience needs, security and risk findings, operational feedback, and technical debt into a clear, prioritized, and defensible design and delivery roadmap for the Windows client.
• Champions a customer-focused culture, treating end-user experience, reliability, and performance as first-class outcomes for every design and workstation decision.
• Serves as the Bank’s subject-matter expert on the Windows client: servicing model and release cadence, feature and quality updates, hotpatch and update mechanics, the boot and sign-in sequence, kernel and user-mode behavior, drivers, provisioning, policy, and security baselines.
• Acts as a senior technical escalation point for complex Windows design and engineering issues, leading root-cause analysis and driving durable, permanent solutions rather than repeated workarounds.
• Uses experience telemetry and operational data (for example Endpoint Analytics and update reporting) to continuously improve performance, boot and sign-in time, reliability, and update success.
• Operates horizontally across the organization, partnering as a peer expert with other vertical engineering groups (for example virtual workspace, identity, networking, security, application, and infrastructure engineering) and with their product owners to align designs, manage dependencies, and deliver shared outcomes.
• Collaborates with, and provides Windows expertise to, the other Windows and endpoint engineering teams within Enterprise Platforms & EUC Engineering in a partnership model, contributing designs, standards, and guidance without assuming ownership of their backlogs, deliverables, or people, and respecting each team’s remit.
• Acts as a connective technical authority for Windows workstation topics, offering solutioning support, design reviews, and knowledge-sharing that raise the quality and consistency of Windows engineering across teams while avoiding duplication or overlap of responsibilities.
• Builds consensus across teams through influence and technical credibility, resolving design trade-offs collaboratively and escalating to leadership only where alignment cannot be reached.
• Continuously tracks the Windows roadmap and Windows Insider signals, maintaining a current view of upcoming releases and platform-enablement updates (for example the 26H1 platform release for next-generation silicon and the 26H2 annual feature update), and advises leadership and peer teams on timing, readiness, and impact.
• Assesses upcoming Windows capabilities and servicing changes, including AI and Copilot+ PC experiences and their NPU hardware requirements, WinUI modernization of core shell components, hotpatch adoption, and resilience features such as point-in-time restore, cloud rebuild, and Quick Machine Recovery, and translates them into practical enterprise designs, hardware standards, and adoption or deferral decisions.
• Evaluates hardware and silicon direction (including Copilot+ PC and Arm-based devices) so that the Bank’s workstation designs, refresh, and standards remain aligned to where Windows is heading, not only where it is today.
• Provides clear, evidence-based guidance to leadership and the broader project community on what is coming in Windows, what it means for the fleet, and what the Bank should do to prepare.
• Partners with Cyber Security, Risk, and Identity teams to embed security-by-design and Zero Trust principles into the Windows client design, including security baselines, encryption (for example BitLocker and hardware-accelerated BitLocker on capable devices), and update compliance.
• Ensures day-to-day design, solutioning, and operational decisions align with the Bank’s risk appetite, operational controls, AML/ATF and regulatory requirements, and technology governance standards.
• Contributes to a high-performance, inclusive engineering culture grounded in clear ownership, technical excellence, and knowledge transfer.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years designing, solutioning, engineering, and operating enterprise Windows workstation or end-user-computing platforms at scale.
• Demonstrated experience leading technical design and solutioning for the Windows client, including target-state solution designs, reference designs, and standards, delivered in partnership with an enterprise architecture function.
• Deep, demonstrable expertise in the Windows client: servicing and release cadence, feature/quality and hotpatch updates, boot and sign-in sequence, kernel and user-mode behavior, drivers, provisioning, policy, and security baselines.
• Proven track record of tracking the Windows roadmap and Windows Insider program and turning upcoming features and servicing changes into enterprise-ready designs and standards.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, and Entra ID, including Conditional Access, compliance, and configuration at enterprise scale.
• Proven ability to work horizontally across multiple engineering teams and product owners, influencing through expertise and building consensus without direct authority.
• Experience owning or co-owning a technical product backlog and prioritizing engineering work in a product-driven model.
• Hands-on automation and scripting (PowerShell strongly preferred) and comfort using telemetry and operational data to drive decisions.
• Experience delivering within regulated, large-scale enterprise environments; strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Relevant Microsoft certifications such as MD-102, SC-300, AZ-104, or equivalent are strongly preferred.
