Solutions Architect

 

Purpose of Job:

The incumbent assists in the preparation of design solutions that consider  needs of project teams while aligning with the enterprise architecture roadmap; reviews developer approaches to promote consistency, security and quality; coaches and advises development teams; and performs proof of technology and software validation.

Education/Work Experience/Designations

Are you able to say yes to all the checkboxes, in this section of the job description?  

  • Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science or technical equivalent
  • 10 years technical work experience or equivalent
  • Minimum 4-5 years in Consulting or Corporate Systems Development environments or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple complex initiatives
  • Experience in Agile, DevOps and all things iterative
  • Hands on knowledge of Microservices, design patterns, cloud native development
  • Able to coach, and a are a hands-on polygot that can program still and lives in the code

    Full stack capability.  Comfortable designing a service one day and building UI the next.

     

    You are focused on converting high level requirements into the architecture and design that ultimately constitute the blueprint for the solution. In that process, you will rely on using design patterns established by other enterprise teams and previous engagements.   In addition you will work with enterprise architecture and the digital factory for their reference architectures, and guidelines.  

    You are a perpetual pragmatist and can bring concepts to reality. 

     

    Your role:

    You are expected to work hands on with the developers and guide and motivate them as well as coach and teach them how to develop their technical capabilities and adopt newer approaches.    You have a sales hat in your arsenal of head coverings and can use it to convince the project development teams to follow the blueprint you have established for them.

     

    We have a new roadmap and a new playbook that is cloud native and Microservice centric.   You are an evangelist of this approach and look towards consuming this blueprint and becoming a key contributor towards it.

    We are looking to rebuild our major systems of engagement using this cloud native strategy.   You will be part of the team that will lead this effort.

    Dev/Ops culture and agile are the basics that you will be expected to know and be able to bring to the table.

     

    Working Conditions:

    You will work for an international bank building global solutions.   Headquartered at our Toronto office, you are expected to occasionally travel to other countries to help as needed.    These trips tend to be less than two weeks in nature and will comprise of no more than 20% of your time per annum.

    You will work in collaborative open office environment with other team members.
