Title:  Senior Scrum Master

Requisition ID: 252690

Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.

The Global Operations Technology (GOT) team develops and manages innovative products designed to support the ever-changing threat landscape. We work in close partnership with our Corporate Security, Fraud Business, and key Technology Partners throughout Scotiabank to drive technology on a global basis. We are key team members within Enterprise Technology to ensure business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Purpose

The Sr. Scrum Master is a servant leader who enables high-performing teams and helps the broader organization adopt and continuously improve Agile ways of working. This role coaches team members in Scrum and other Agile practices, facilitates key ceremonies, removes impediments, and partners with leaders and stakeholders to improve flow, predictability, quality, and value delivery.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Model and champion Agile values and servant leadership; foster a culture of trust, transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate and continuously improve core Scrum/Agile events (Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Refinement, Sprint Review, Retrospective) ensuring they are purposeful, timeboxed, and outcome driven.
  • Coach the team on self-management, cross-functionality, collaboration, and effective engineering/product practices that support sustainable delivery.
  • Partner with the Product Owner to strengthen product discovery and delivery practices (vision, outcomes, roadmap/backlog management, slicing, prioritization, acceptance criteria, definition of ready/done).
  • Make work visible and improve flow using Scrum/Kanban practices and tooling (e.g., Jira/Confluence); help the team manage WIP, dependencies, and capacity.
  • Identify, remove, and/or escalate impediments and risks; facilitate timely decision-making and resolution across teams and stakeholders.
  • Enable effective planning and predictable delivery by coaching estimation/forecasting practices and supporting release planning when required.
  • Use data to guide improvement (e.g., throughput, cycle time, predictability, quality); establish meaningful metrics and ensure insights drive action rather than reporting for its own sake.
  • Coach team members, leaders and stakeholders on Agile concepts and team interactions; improve organizational ways of working (intake, prioritization, governance, dependency management) to support team autonomy.
  • Support Agile maturity across labs by sharing practices, facilitating communities of practice, collaborate with other Scrum Masters, and contributing to standards/playbooks as needed.
  • Ensure delivery activities remain compliant with Scotiabank policies and procedures, including risk, security, and audit expectations.
  • Assist other labs/teams as required to enable consistent Agile practices and successful outcomes

What You Will Bring to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5–7+ years of IT experience, including experience on software delivery teams
  • 5+ years’ experience as a Scrum Master and/or Agile Coach supporting cross-functional teams in an Agile environment
  • Strong knowledge of software development life cycle practices to understand team needs and remove delivery friction
  • Demonstrated ability to coach teams and leaders, strong facilitation skills for effective ceremonies, workshops, and retrospectives.
  • Deep understanding of Agile frameworks, especially Scrum and Kanban; experience improving flow, predictability, and quality
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence without authority
  • Experience working with engineering, product, design, and delivery stakeholders; comfortable navigating complex, regulated environments
  • Proficiency with Agile tooling such as Jira, Confluence, or similar
  • Agile certification(s) such as CSM, ICP-ACC/ICP-ATF, SAFe, or equivalent are an asset.
  • Learning mindset with strong problem solving, adaptability, and a focus on outcomes and continuous improvement
  • Risk awareness and ability to operate effectively within Bank’s policy, security, and governance expectations.
  • Ability to leverage and interpret metrics/analytics to support day-to-day conversations and decision making

What’s in it for you?

  • We are strategic technology partners dedicated to transforming the way our global workforce operates.
  • Our inclusive and collaborative work environment fosters creativity, curiosity, and celebrates achievements.
  • You will have the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from diverse industry leaders who have experience at top technology companies worldwide.
  • We cultivate a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
  • We prioritize the well-being of our employees, empowering them to design their work processes to achieve outstanding results.
  • We offer a competitive total rewards package, which includes a performance bonus, company matching programs (for pension and profit sharing), and generous vacation benefits.
