Purpose:
The Quantamental & Derivatives team at 1832 Asset Management L.P. predominantly covers a large range of U.S. centric large and mid-cap listed equities and manages approximately $25 Billion in AUM, the Portfolio Analyst will have the opportunity to:
• Work with the Quantitative & Derivatives Portfolio team to generate both long- and short-term trade ideas expressed using both equities and equity derivatives.
• Expand knowledge beyond traditional fundamental analysis and modelling and learn about quantitative techniques, derivatives analysis and trading, risk and portfolio management
• Generate and maintain proprietary analysis on the sector(s)and the companies initially assigned with potential to expand into other sectors.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
Maintain a core coverage of equities, framed within a top-down macro and factor context, used to generate trade and investment ideas:
• Perform complex financial modelling, valuation and quantitative analysis
• Write industry and company reports that tie bottom-up fundamentals to the prevailing macro and rate backdrop, using a combination of sell-side research, third party data and financial filings
• Explore alternative and systematic data sources, incorporating them into quarterly models to enhance earnings predictions and signal generation
• Build and maintain the datasets and screening tools necessary for company coverage.
• Stay on top of all research, macro developments, news & sell side commentary related to your coverage and generate ideas for daily trading calls
• Build relationships with sell side analysts and specialist sales related to your coverage
• Ramp up from sectoral coverage toward building the skillset and responsibilities of a sector or macro PM, blending fundamental, macro and quantitative perspectives
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:
• Applicants must have a minimum 2 years’ of DIRECT EXPERIENCE in generating and consuming buy/sell side research and investment recommendations
• Must have an in-depth knowledge of public equities markets and the macro and cross-asset drivers that move them
• Must have extremely strong Excel and financial modeling skills; proficiency in Python (or a similar language) for data analysis is a strong asset
• Must have practical experience in analyzing, modelling, forecasting, ideally complemented by statistical or factor-based techniques
• Must have strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
• Must enjoy working in fast-paced and often intense environment
• Must have a track record of completing tasks on time and with high quality
• Minimum bachelor’s degree required – Finance, Math, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science or Science background preferred, Graduate degree and/or CFA charter would be an asset
• Experience with Bloomberg and statistical or quantitative analysis tools an asset
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Extremely strong analytical and problem-solving skills
