The Role
The Senior Manager is responsible for providing support for all finance-related issues to CWM senior management, Finance groups within BNS and various external users and providing guidance and support for development and management of the financial reporting, planning, forecasting, business & client profitability, and ad-hoc analysis for the CWM Division.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Directs and manages the monthly, quarterly, and annual Management reporting and forecasting to Senior Management groups for CWM Division ensuring the completeness, accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of the financial results. This responsibility includes:
- Promoting financial and management reports to drive specific and ongoing revenue enhancement and cost control initiatives by Senior Management
- Primary responsibility for presentation of financial results to Business Line Senior Management team, for commenting and interpreting results to ensure proper understanding of trends and variances
- Oversee and produce the monthly staffing analysis and reporting
- Providing resolution to Senior Executive’s request for information on management reports, revenue analysis and cost control initiatives and any other finance-related inquiries as formulated by Senior Management and Sales Management Groups
- Driving the design, development, and maintenance of required management reports on OBI/Hyperion and source GL (PeopleSoft); this includes tree maintenance and control over access to management reports.
- Maintains effective controls over the Wealth Management accounting processes to ensure the reliability of the financial records and investigates any significant and/or unusual variance or questionable trends: primary responsibility for contacts with Global Banking Markets Finance team.
- Manages special project work and ad-hoc Business analysis to support business strategies, including Business Line Management initiatives, Profitability Models, Business Development initiatives and operational efficiencies.
- Manages and mentors a team of 4 people to identify opportunities for increased efficiency through automation and systems improvements; increases departmental knowledge and succession planning through training and cross-training.
- Drives the Annual Planning Process, including:
- Coordinating the 3 Year Projections, High level, Business and Strategic Plan processes.
- Reviewing the Business growth assumptions and interest plan models as well as expense plans.
- Monitoring the upload of all department budgets to the Budget systems (Hyperion and Peoplesoft).
- Coordinating the upload of information with the branches and regional teams.
- Preparing executive summaries for Director, GWM Finance and other executives’ review and approval.
- Manages the reporting structure and distribution logistics of all management information prepared for CWM management team.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:
- Accounting designation (CMA, CGA or CA) or MBA and/or 5 years related work experience is required
- Be a self-starter, results-focus, and highly motivated individual with the ability to multi-task
- Strong organizational, managerial, interpersonal and communication abilities to direct varied activities within tight deadlines, alleviate conflicts as they arise and liaise with senior management in the field, SMFS, Global Banking Markets, Head Office, and Executive Offices
- Excellent financial analysis skills with a solid grasp of Bank profitability and performance measurement tools/criteria are essential, as is a demonstrated ability to conceptualize problems and clearly apply analytical techniques for evaluating investments to make sound financial recommendations to Senior Executive
- Working knowledge of financial software such as OBI, Hyperion, or Peoplesoft
- Proficiency in database management related computer software (Excel, Word, Access)
- Equitable human resource management and good people skills are required to foster a positive work environment that values teamwork and provides a productive, enjoyable, and satisfying experience for all staff
- Superior influencing skills with excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) and negotiation skills to build consensus and obtain co-operation
- Exemplary customer service, including professional advice and creative solutions, is required
- This position requires professional judgment, initiative, and strong strategic influencing skills to work with internal as well as external departments. It requires strong customer service attitude and pro-active attitude to resolve complex business issues. The position requires high level of flexibility to adapt quickly to a dynamic business environment.
