The Role
As a Senior Manager, Operational Risk & Control, you will play a critical role in strengthening the risk culture within Global Wholesale Operations (GWO). You’ll lead initiatives that implement enterprise risk policies, standards, and methodologies to proactively manage operational risk. This function is part of the Global Operations Chief Operating Office (COO), supporting Global Banking and Markets (GBM) and other business partners by designing and executing operational processes that manage risk and meet regulatory obligations throughout the client and trade lifecycle.

- Champion a customer-focused culture within your team to deepen relationships and leverage broader Bank capabilities.
- Apply a deep understanding of enterprise risk policies and operationalize them effectively within GWO.
- Lead risk mitigation initiatives by assessing control design and operating effectiveness with minimal guidance.
- Monitor audit inspections, review risk findings, and ensure timely closure of management action plans.
- Drive the execution of the Operational Risk Function and target operating model within GWO.
- Standardize and synchronize risk reporting and profiling across regions.
- Lead and ensure consistency in Operational Risk Event/Issue reviews and Risk & Control Self-Assessments (RCSA).
- Conduct lessons learned and deep-dive analyses using established risk tools.
- Promote risk awareness through training on standards, root cause analysis, and escalation practices.
- Maintain the key control library for conformance and testing across regions.
- Represent GWO in risk-related forums and lead insightful discussions with global senior stakeholders.
- Build strong partnerships with Internal Controls, Compliance, Audit, and other key teams.
- Ensure adherence to Scotiabank’s Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles, while meeting obligations related to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.
- Foster a high-performance, inclusive environment through coaching, succession planning, and talent development.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Law, or equivalent work experience.
- Prior working experience in a control function within Operations, Operational Risk, Finance, or Internal Audit.
- Strong knowledge of corporate banking and capital markets products and operational processes.
- Proven experience in risk management frameworks, audit processes, and regulatory compliance.
- Deep understanding of enterprise risk policies, standards, and methodologies.
- Proficiency in risk assessment tools, RCSA processes, and audit tracking systems.
- Ability to standardize risk reporting and profiling across multiple regions.
- FRM (Financial Risk Manager) or PRM (Professional Risk Manager) preferred.
- CPA, CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), or equivalent risk/audit certifications preferred.
