The team:

Scotiabank’s Global Technology Services (GTS) -  EDL & Data Management Services is responsible for the operations engineering required to provide highly available and resilient systems.  We are responsible for providing data management platform services, following SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) and data governance best practices, as well as consulting and coordinating with the Bank’s technology teams to meet business expectations.

 

The role:

  • You will be responsible for leading a team of application data engineers providing application and platform support.
  • You will be focused on the stability, security, and resilience of a set of platform applications, managing incident response and recommending and implementing solutions that drive automation, problem resolution, enhance stability, and reduce recovery times.
  • You have a keen interest in uncovering root causes through blameless post-mortems and acting on findings.
  • You will partner with the Product owner, business, and technology partners to maintain and prioritize the product backlog, coordinating delivery through release planning, solution design, development and delivery.
  • You will manage product quality through functional and non-functional test planning, design, and execution.
  • You will manage staff recruitment, retention, development, and performance.
  • You will manage vendor relationships, managing and tracking financials against budget, and ensuring compliance with bank standards.
  • After-hours support is required for the triage and resolution of production incidents.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

  • You have at least 5+ years of hands-on technical working experience with the IBM Infosphere Product Suite (DataStage, Information Analyzer, Fasttrack, Information Governance Console, IMAM)
  • You have at least 3+ years of hands-on technical working experience with general Operating System (OS) support on any Linux and/or flavour of Unix OS.
  • You have a solid understanding of and experience with security, firewalls, and network protocols.
  • You possess superior problem solving and decision-making skills to resolve work issues with the ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • You can demonstrate an ability to manage in highly ambiguity situations.
  • You can demonstrate experience in leading major incidents that cross application and technology boundaries.
  • You have completed a post-secondary education in computer science, engineering or in a related technology field.
  • You have strong communication (verbal/written) and good interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal and external business partners and vendors.
  • You have a track record as a strong team player with a proven ability to lead a performance-oriented engineering team, set standards, and provide development opportunities.
  • You have at least 3+ years of working experience in the people management of technical resources, directly and/or indirectly.
  • You have working knowledge  in supporting, deploying, and interconnecting various technologies (e.g., Hadoop - HDP/CDP, Linux servers, Kubernetes, compiling code, applications, libraries, monitoring) at an enterprise scale.
