Retail Deposits and Investments Technology team within Global Wealth Management Technology is looking for a Senior Manager, Development who is responsible for the execution and delivery of technology solutions and lead the development and support of Investment Platform to retail customers and Advisors.  This role will be responsible for driving foundational maintenance and stability initiatives on the Investment Platform. Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

 

  • Leads and drives a client focused culture throughout their IT professionals (full-time and contractors) to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Provide overall leadership and technical guidance that enables the creative delivery of Investment Platform solutions.
  • Provide analytic support in the development and implementation of strategic plans.
  • Accountable for budgeting processes and quality improvement activities for the department.
  • Assist in the review and evaluation of business initiatives, products and projects and formulate insightful guidance and input for business leaders.
  • Manages communication with all areas of the enterprise that impacts the scope, budget, risk, and resources of the work effort being managed..
  • Ensures the timely development and implementation of multiple applications and IT solutions – involving multiple systems, multiple dependencies and multiple stakeholders/business partners – where solutions cross business lines and customer segments. 
  • Responsible for ensuring project/program objectives are following IT Technology Roadmap and have an in-depth knowledge of the principles, theories, practices and techniques for managing the activities related to planning, managing and implementing software projects and programs.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk. 
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vision/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:

 

 

  • Demonstrated ability to make prompt, effective decisions in high-pressure situations and operate independently with minimal supervision.
  • Minimum of 5 years of people manager experience in application or systems development, ideally within the banking sector and overseeing 15 or more IT professionals.
  • At least 10 years of progressive technical experience, including hands-on roles in systems analysis, design and programming on large, complex projects with significant IT and operational components.
  • Strong knowledge of Java, Cloud, system integration across platforms is highly desirable.
  • Proven leadership, proactive attitude, and dynamic approach to leading teams in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
  • Creative, self-starting, results-driven, and highly motivated, with outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated coaching skills, fostering team development and individual growth through mentorship and constructive feedback.
  • ·    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with IT teams, business partners, and external vendors.
  • Expertise in managing multiple critical initiatives simultaneously, with a track record of handling high-impact applications.
  • Advanced understanding of complex business and technical processes in the banking or financial services industry.
  • Experience in IT risk management, audit, currency issues, and vendor management.
  • Ownership of application portfolios, ensuring accuracy and up-to-date information.
  • Familiarity with internal banking processes, including Change Management, Incident Management, and Security controls.
