The team:

Global Technology Services (GTS) is accountable for planning, engineering and 24x7 operations of all global infrastructure supporting Scotiabank.  We deliver the full range of IT infrastructure services inclusive of the public cloud, traditional data centers and our branch locations.  Our services include architecture, engineering and operational support of our networks, systems and databases as well as end-user support for over 90,000 Scotia Bank employees.  GTS is a team of over 1,800 people located in 15 countries.


The role:

Reporting to the Director of Pega Operations, you are responsible for the day to day operational functions and related infrastructure of Scotiabank's global Pega ecosystems both on Scotiabank infrastructure, and public cloud.  You are responsible for the implementation of common consistent processes and tools to support application teams across all business lines from all countries in which Scotiabank operates.  You will work in close collaboration with application development teams, the Global Operations Pega Centre of Excellence and Pega DevOps Engineering.


As these teams are geographically distributed in Ontario (Toronto & Stratford), Latin America & overseas, you are willing to travel less than 10% of the time within Canada and internationally. When required, you will available for evening and weekend work.

Hybrid: Mainly work from home assignment (75%) with Flexible on-premise work locations throughout Toronto, Scarborough, & Stratford (25%). The team’s primary work location is at 888 Birchmount Road.

  • You must possess excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task. The ability to provide leadership and communicate effectively with Senior Management, technical and non-technical staff, as well as business partners.
  • You thrive on implementing technical solutions to meet strategic and tactical business goals and identify opportunities and processes that will enhance the overall robustness and integrity of the database infrastructure.
  • You are familiar with operational implications of running enterprise applications in a public cloud environment and have an appetite for continual process improvement.
  • You are a proven leader and can provide counsel, coaching, and set performance expectations for your staff.  You provide continuous performance feedback as needed including the preparation of formal performance appraisals.
  • You are adept at working with remote teams including clients, staff and internal partners.
  • You can identify, retain and recruit qualified and skilled staff to deliver a high-level of service ensuring application stability and availability.


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

  • You have at least 5+ years of practical working experience in providing technical leadership in an enterprise level operations environment.
  • You have at least 3+ years of working experience as a people manager with a demonstrated ability to manage a technology application team to attain target service levels in a 24x7 technology-based operations environment.
  • You have 3+ years of hands-on technical working knowledge, from solutions architecture and/or design, with Pega software. This technical knowledge provides you with the insights on Pega as a system; how to tune it; its application behaviour around performance & how it integrates with other systems & tiers.
  • You have a strong awareness of Pegasystems’ CRM and/or Digital Process Automation and/or Business Process Management; as well as PegaRULES Process Commander (PRPC) and/or Pega Client Lifecycle Management (CLM).  Additionally experience with Pega’s SaaS cloud offering will be beneficial.
  • Your body of work has spanned a technical understanding of infrastructure required for Pega software, including operating platforms, networks, firewalls, databases, middle tier application servers, access protocols & security standards.
  • You have a robust background in enterprise IT operations and the application of methodologies like ITIL and/or COBIT.
  • You are knowledgeable in public Cloud computing (Azure and Google preferred) and the use of DevOps practices for managing applications and infrastructure environments.
  • You have strong communication (verbal/written/presentation) skills to connect with a technical or business audience of stakeholders or leaders. The same in Spanish is an asset.
  • You have a post-secondary education in computer science, business, math or engineering related discipline. Certification as a Pega Senior System Architect (CSSA) + ITIL Foundations and / or COBIT is strongly preferred.
