The Senior Manager, Strategy & Governance contributes to the success of the department by leading department-wide strategic initiatives including annual planning, department wide communications and events, and executive support. The incumbent works closely with executive leaders within Retail Credit Risk and ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

- Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Strategy:
- Lead the annual fiscal strategic planning process; conducts analysis required to inform strategy, considering the ‘big picture’ and alignment to Scotiabank strategy and vision
- Responsible for communicating the department strategy to employees to enhance engagement and awareness and ensure alignment with Retail Credit Risk, and Scotiabank’s strategic framework, purpose and values
- Support operating budget and resource management for Retail Credit Risk, including monthly reporting against financial plan
- Leads and/or supports initiatives to improve employee satisfaction, address risk culture concerns, address concerns highlighted in pulse results, and address any concerns raised in department huddles/townhalls, including training, communications, process flows/maps etc. as required
- Support strategic initiatives, as required at the direction of the SVP, Retail Credit Risk Canada
Communications:
- Leveraging excellent executive communication skills and deep competency translating into plain language the strategy and value of the team
- Lead key departmental training programs, including Retail Credit Essentials and DRE Fundamentals, including all logistics, planning, and execution
- Responsible for executive communications for SVP, Retail Credit Risk Canada
- Build strategic partnerships across GRM and Bank communications and change professionals to ensure alignment
- Coordinates weekly leadership meetings and updatesInfluence and inform stakeholders on communications needs of department
- Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
- Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in business or related field or significant work experience
- A minimum of 5-7 years with an organization in strategy or communications, with a proven track record of success in leading and implementing change in the financial services sector.
- Excellent planning and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) is essential. The incumbent also requires strong organizational, managerial, interpersonal and communication abilities to direct varied activities within tight deadlines, alleviate conflicts as they arise and liaise with senior management in Head Office.
- Ability to take calculated, enterprising risks supported by clear rationale (e.g. industry trends, competitive research, and positive cost benefit analysis).
- Strong negotiating and influencing to influence all levels of the organization.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills that facilitate a positive and effective team environment at all levels of the organization.
- Experience working with SharePoint and Viva Engage to facilitate department communications
- High credibility with the Bank’s senior management team and with business line and other functional area management teams.
- Prior experience in credit risk management is an asset.
