Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of Global Transaction Banking globally, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

As a Senior Product Owner, your primary responsibility will be to enable portfolio teams in making value-based decisions that are well aligned to the strategic vision of Scotiabank’s Global Payment Platforms strategy. The Senior Product Owner will collaborate closely with Portfolio Leads, Product Owners, Product Teams, and stakeholders from numerous lines of business across the enterprise in order to enable highly visible and transparent understanding of the value, priority, impact, and alignment of work being requested, accepted and ultimately delivered by the Global Payment Platforms teams.

 

The Senior Product Owner will empower the team to make on-the-spot decisions to realize the defined business value, facilitate the negotiation of scope, remove business related impediments to delivering value and validate value realization.


What You’ll Do:

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
    • Direct the evaluation, development, approval, execution, and value measuring of large-scale strategic payment platforms initiatives to support GTB’s strategic plans and objectives by:
    • Supporting the definition of enterprise business model, strategy, process, KPIs, benefit and experience for Global Payment Platforms
    • Clearly defining and articulating business concepts, outcomes, and key success metrics for each project/initiative
    • Working closely with team members and business partners to define and recommend Minimum Viable Product (MVP) schedules
    • Owning the Product Backlog of MVPs and maintain its priorities, industry trends, internal strategy while ensuring top MVPs are execution ready
    • Proactively identifies and mitigates issues that could negatively impact the business model, strategic initiative, industry/internal strategy, product release, etc. 
    • Developing and managing the project execution plan and clearly communicating expectations and goals to all team members and stakeholders
    • Leading the development and ongoing tracking/reporting of business and delivery KPIs/metrics (e.g. project dashboards), ensuring ongoing communication of project status, completing monthly status reports and escalating issues, as required, to the Director
    • Supporting the Executive business case to obtain project approval
  • Collaborates with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to shape payments strategies, define executable MVPs, system and process requirements, customer oriented with specific tactics to address opportunities and barriers by:
    • Engaging with internal stakeholders and partners to seek understanding and exchange ideas; ensure communication is positioned in terms that are easy to understand by a diverse group and gain credibility and buy-in on direction
    • Ensuring awareness of market and trends in the business environment; using research and available analysis to help inform ideas
    • Lead cross-functional teams to identify pain points in the current state journeys and map out the desired future state
    • Overseeing/directing the documentation of current and proposed process flows
  • Actively engage, participate and shape industry and internal strategies/execution associated with evolving payments capabilities (e.g. real-time payments, ISO 20022, etc.)
    • Engage with industry stakeholders (e.g. Payments Canada, Swift, Interac, Other FIs, etc.) to collaborate on shaping industry direction as applicable
    • Actively participate in Industry forums to bring Scotiabank’s eminence to the industry
    • Leverage industry knowledge/direction to enable Scotiabank to bring leading edge services to our external and internal customers
    • Evaluate trends and opportunities globally to bring back into Scotiabank’s Global Payment Platforms strategy
  • Drive change management efforts within Global Payment Platforms by:
    • Leading with an end-to-end mindset, where business, technology and operations are all considered when making decisions that drive change 
    • Conducting needs analysis/analyzing recommended and/or implemented changes
    • Preparing workflows/procedures to ensure new functions/processes are integrated into the operational environment
    • Ensuring proper determination of workflow effort differences between existing and recommended processes
    • Identifying areas for improvement and assessing cost efficiency and risk
    • Ensuring cross-departmental socialization on program status, as well as highlighting key risks and major constraints
    • Rolling out the change in a feedback driven manner, adjusting/evolving as necessary
    • Serving as a facilitator and relationship-builder among key stakeholders with sometimes competing priorities by overseeing/coordinating partner socialization around major themes of change and proposed initiatives
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk. 
  • Champions a high performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.


What You'll Bring:

  • 7+ years experience managing complex business and technology projects
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Formal agile designations such as CSPO, CSM would be an asset
  • Strong understanding of global payment operations, clearing and settlement 
  • Working knowledge of payment operations surrounding clearing & settlement, and FI cash & treasury management activities would be an asset


Work Arrangement: 

  • Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.  Regular travel based on business need will be required between our Toronto and Scarborough offices.
