The Senior Manager supports Governance, Strategy and Enterprise Risk programs, ensuring risk strategies, plans and initiatives are executed/delivered in compliance with governing regulations, policies and procedures. Lead and contribute to the overall success of the Global HR Risk Management Framework providing direction, thought leadership, expertise, and oversight for assigned initiatives within GHR Risk Management, ensuring individual goals, plans and initiatives are executed in support of team's objectives. 

 

Leads the implementation strategy, design and delivery of enterprise risk initiatives for Global Human Resources, in accordance with enterprise and local regulations. Acts as a transformation partner to the Director, Global HR Risk Management, responsible for the ongoing optimization of the GHR Risk Management program. 

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Lead the Globalization of the GHR Risk Management Framework, understanding how the Banks Risk appetite and Risk Culture are to be considered on day-to-day activities and decisions.
    • Manage a portfolio of projects that can span Governance, Strategy and Enterprise programs to optimize processes while achieving productivity efficiencies.
    • Build strong relationships with all GHR Country Heads and teams to support effective assessment and design of GHR Risk Management Model
    • Identify Solutions and lead the implementation of Risk Management Tools for Global HR to track and standardize risk program implementation (e.g. SharePoint Site, Knowledge Management and reporting technologies, including leveraging AI)
  • Deliver executive reporting of all GHR Risk Management Framework initiatives.
  • Lead implementation of enterprise strategic programs and risk initiatives for Global Human Resources across jurisdictions ensuring consistency and sustainability.  
    • Ensure alignment with global regulatory requirements, enterprise risk appetite, and strategic objectives, while driving continuous improvement and governance excellence. Assess enterprise initiatives to determine easy, effective, and efficient implementation plans across our Global HR Footprint.
  • Change Management - Tracking, monitoring and communicating the progress of initiatives against defined project timelines and escalation of project issues to key stakeholders as applicable.
    • Responsible for effective change management planning and communication of key changes of the risk management program to ensure successful implementation and anchoring of the programs to mitigate risk.
    • Communicating changes internally and externally with key partners and countries impacted.
  • Documentation - Oversee the development of appropriate GHR Risk Management playbooks, processes, procedures and controls which support business plan growth, enhance productivity, mitigate risk and provide a consistent GHR Risk Management framework experience.
  • Reporting - Accountable for oversight, ongoing monitoring, of risk management metrics and reporting – preparing and delivering executive level reporting for country heads. Senior leadership and governance committees.
    • Share GHR Risk Management review recommendations and best practices to ensure consistent application of key controls which contribute to sustained improvement of Key Risk performance indicators globally.
  • Act as a strategic partner to the senior leadership team in each HR area, ensuring challenges and issues are addressed effectively
  • Lead and manage the team by fostering a high-performance and inclusive environment. Implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, motivates talent through coaching behaviors, clear communication of vision, values, and business strategy, and proactive succession and development planning.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? - We'd love to work with you if you have: 

  • 8+ years of banking/financial services experience with an emphasis on leading strategic initiatives and large-scale projects
  • Strong understanding of areas in Human Resources, including HR Policies and the regulatory environment, and reporting requirements across our global footprint
  • Strong understanding of effective governance and strategy management
  • Proven experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives from concept to execution.
  • Expertise in managing timelines, budgets, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Excellent understanding of change management best practices
  • Excellent strategic thinking, influence and communication throughout all levels of the organization
  • Strong capability to interpret data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and develop creative, practical solutions.
  • Ability to translate organizational goals into actionable initiatives and long-term plans.
  • Skilled at aligning projects with enterprise priorities and risk appetite.
  • Understanding of key Scotiabank business drivers and context of external environment
  • Able to assess difficult regulatory issues, exercise sound judgment expeditiously with respect to such issues and defend decisions with management of the businesses.
  • Expert ability to balance competing/ conflicting goals of various stakeholders, requiring a mature, diplomatic approach and highly developed negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Proactive approach to activity completion with minimal direction
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly developed cultural sensitivity to operate effectively across cultural and language differences. 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish – written & spoken required
