The Senior Manager, Sanctions Risk Assessment, Global Sanctions & Screening contributes to the overall success of the Global Sanctions & Screening (GSS) sanctions risk assessment function by ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the function and the strategies and objectives of the GSS team. This role ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Provide input (including appropriate text revisions) into the development and periodic update of the enterprise ML/TF & Sanctions Risk Assessment Methodology based on internal and external events, regulatory developments, and industry best practices.

  • Execute various activities in support of Scotiabank’s enterprise sanctions risk assessment, including:

    • Conducting an annual quantitative and qualitative assessment of sanctions risk across the Bank’s Business Lines in coordination with the 2nd Line AML Risk Assessment team and in conformity with the requirements of the Enterprise ML/TF & Sanctions Risk Assessment Methodology.

    • Sourcing inherent risk data inputs from relevant internal parties, such as assessable units and data governance functions.

    • Providing effective challenge of inherent risk and program effectiveness calculations.

    • Reviewing and/or drafting the Enterprise Sanctions Risk Assessment Report and the Business Line Sanctions Risk Assessment Reports.

    • Maintaining a recordkeeping system for risk assessment work papers, conclusions, and results.

  • Execute various activities in support of Scotiabank’s enterprise sanctions product risk ratings and geographic risk ratings.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for inquiries related to the sanctions risk assessment function.

  • Contribute to the content of Senior/Executive Management reporting relating to the GSS sanctions risk assessment function.

  • Assist with tracking issues related to risk assessment execution through the Bank’s issues management processes.

  • Develop/deliver training, as necessary, to support and educate on the execution of the sanctions risk assessment function.

  • Keep informed of matters relevant to the GSS sanctions risk assessment function, including changes in applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Build strong partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively across functional teams.

  • Foster a high-performance, inclusive work environment that reinforces both individual accountability and strong inter-team cooperation.

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant discipline with a minimum of five years of risk assessment/management experience, or other related experience in a financial institution setting.

  • Self-starter with a proven record of success in delivering high-priority, high-impact deliverables under minimal supervision.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to bring order to data and information, drawing conclusions and making appropriate recommendations.

  • Results-oriented with excellent planning, time management, and reporting skills.

  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills together with solid presentation skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills together with a proven ability to build strong cross-functional business relationships.

  • Working knowledge of financial services sector business, products, operations, and systems.

  • Working knowledge of Canadian and U.S. AML/ATF and economic sanctions laws, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.

  • Skilled proficiency with risk management software as well as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other related productivity tools.

  • AML/ATF/sanctions-related professional designation (e.g., CAMS, CGSS, CSS) is an asset.
