The Senior Manager, Risk Assessment and Regulatory Obligations, GBM&T Central Compliance is a key player in the overall success of the GBM&T Global Central Compliance program who is responsible for the execution of key global Risk Assessment (i.e. CRCA, NIRA, TPRM), Issues Management and Regulatory Obligations (i.e. Regulatory Library) programs for GBM&T globally.  The Senior Manager contributes to a globally aligned approach for the aforementioned programs, executing on internal policies and procedures and drawing from best-in-class practices to ensure GBM&T global initiatives and regulatory programs are delivered in support of GBM&T’s strategies, objectives and in compliance with governing regulations. 

 

What You’ll Do

  • Responsible for driving GBM&T’s Global Central Compliance Risk and Control Assessment (CRCA) quarterly and annual assessment cycle activities in collaboration with the Risk Assessment Pillar team, regional GBM&T Central Compliance teams, and other key stakeholders (i.e. First and Second Line teams and Central Programs), as required.  Responsible for ensuring pre-cycle preparation activities, in-cycle and post-cycle deliverables are completed accurately, completely and in-alignment globally with established standards.  Responsible for preparing interim and final results reporting for global and regional executive teams in the First and Second Line.  Provides effective challenge to risk assessments to ensure alignment with business-line and business-unit activity.  Accountable for the ongoing delivery, alignment and enhancement (i.e. data-driven approach) of GBM&T Global Central Compliance’s assessments, processes, workflow and engagement model with key stakeholders. 
  • Responsible for driving other key global risk assessment processes for GBM&T, including, but not limited to, the New Initiative Risk Assessment (NIRA), and Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM) processes in-alignment with established standards.  Accountable for the ongoing delivery, alignment and enhancement of GBM&T Global Central Compliance’s processes, workflow and engagement model with key stakeholders as it relates to these programs.  Drives reporting and regional collaboration in relation to these programs, ensuring assessment risks are visible and escalated to key stakeholders.
  • Responsible for overseeing GBM&T’s regulatory compliance monthly Issues Management reporting and other ongoing requests from the Issues Management Pillar, as required.  Ensures GBM&T’s regulatory compliance issues are accurately identified, tracked and reported.  Responsible for collaborating with regional stakeholders in the First and Second Lines to resolve any issues in a timely manner.  Supports the Director in ensuring the Executive reporting on issues management is timely, accurate and complete.
  • Supports the execution of GBM&T’s Triennial Review of regulatory obligations to confirm their completeness, accuracy, alignment with applicable controls, and appropriate mapping of business units to requirements and controls. Responsible for independently executing Triennial Reviews in accordance with  the Regulatory Obligations Operating Procedures (ROOP), Regulatory Library Validation procedures, established checklists, and AI-enabled tools; validating the completeness and accuracy of requirements, controls, and business unit mappings to regulatory obligations; maintaining audit-ready records of review completion; monitoring progress against established review targets; and ensuring timely completion of assigned reviews.
  • Supports the execution of a globally aligned approach in GBM&T as it relates to the Regulatory Obligations pillar in collaboration with Enterprise Compliance, the regional Compliance teams, and other stakeholders, as required.
  • Champions an automation and AI-enabled approach to daily tasks and workflows.  Continually suggests and implements improvements to processes/workflows through AI-enabled tools and techniques.
  • Ensures Policies & Procedures for areas supported are kept complete, accurate and up to date on current workflows.
  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, and its Code of Conduct, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to regulatory compliance risk.

What You Bring

  • University Degree in Finance, Commerce, Economics or related field.  Post graduate degree (MBA) or certification (CFA) would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience supporting GBM&T in a Compliance or similar role at a major financial institution.  Direct experience supporting the GBM&T business in a risk assessment, regulatory obligations and/or compliance advisory role would be considered an asset.
  • Proven track record of working with Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, engineering and executing AI prompts in a professional environment to enhance the efficiency of programs.
  • A strong understanding of the global regulations impacting GBM&T and of the global regulatory framework.  Knowledgeable of global regulatory, industry trends, emerging and current risks relevant to corporate banking, investment banking and capital markets businesses in Canada, United States, Europe and Asia-Pacific. 
  • Excellent communication and relationship-management skills, with the proven ability to influence senior stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Proven track record of working in a team environment.
  • Pragmatic and results oriented.
  • An enquiring mind, sound judgement and strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • The ability to think and operate at both a strategic and operational level, as required.
  • Ability to learn, adapt, and remain resilient in a fast paced, dynamic and challenging work environment.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (particularly Excel) would be required.
  • AI-tool expertise – experience with Microsoft Copilot, creating agents to automate workflows and processes, would be required.
  • Working knowledge of IBM OpenPages is a strong asset
  • Strong PowerBI skills, would be considered an asset.
