The Senior Manager, working with the Director, leads and oversees Global Finance - Internal Control Testing, monitoring and quality control in Canada and across all of Finance, ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Plans and executes testing of internal controls and monitoring of risk indicators in Global Finance (GF) for the GF Risk Universe in line with the 1-B mandate and formulated test plans developed and refined in line with emerging risks and controls.
- Participates in the development of the annual plan in coordination with other testing plans with intertwined corporate functions (like Compliance, IT and Risk), and 1-B teams, including tracking and reporting of testing completion results against the annual plan. Works closely with Director – Testing and with other GF 1-B teams in countries outside of Canada to support testing through or with them.
- Keep abreast of changes to Global Finance processes and programs, regulatory risks, and identified issues which may have an impact on control testing priorities. Concurrently maintain current knowledge of applicable regulatory and operational requirements.
- Develop appropriate testing procedures to evaluate the design and operational effectiveness of key controls in managing regulatory, compliance, and/or operational risks. Completes timely review of documentation to support testing results and conclusions. Present issues and control weaknesses, inclusive of recommended solutions, to Global Finance management.
- Maintains relationships and works closely with Business Line management to understand compliance risk in the business and build/adjust our testing approach / issue recommendations accordingly.
- Identifies, defines, and builds a risk effective and cost-efficient testing program by providing feedback on enhancements to the testing methodology (which includes risk prioritized assessments, testing cycles, reporting results and more), looking for opportunities to automate testing procedures, use data analytics tools like Power BI, Alteryx, etc.
- Conducts a thematic analysis and root cause problem solving on issues identified by GF by linking them with the overall risks and prioritizing the effectiveness of the controls.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
- University degree or higher in finance, accounting, or related discipline
- Professional accounting designation (CPA/CA) with strong expertise in auditing of internal controls at public accounting firms or similar experience in financial accounting and reporting within a large financial institution.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in more than one of the following areas: Audit, Testing, Internal Controls, Financial Reporting and/or FI Regulatory Reporting.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting, regulatory compliance (including IFRS), and financial laws and regulations impacting banks/financial institutions
- Strong understanding of risk and internal controls affecting finance, accounting, and regulatory matters, particularly controls testing methodology and related tools
- Excellent analytical skills—able to review, interpret, and synthesize data to investigate potential exceptions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of an organization
- Demonstrated leadership and people management capabilities, including strong coaching skills
- Highly organized and adept at managing multiple complex projects concurrently, remaining calm and focused amid competing priorities
- Flexible and adaptable, able to collaborate across diverse stakeholder groups and business units
- Proven ability to drive success in a high-performing, dynamic small/medium team environment
