Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of the Global Wealth Management in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
     
  • Operational Risk
  • Leads compliance to Scotiabank’s Operational Risk Management Framework for all WM businesses
  • Leads the development, implementation and documentation an overall operational risk framework for WM business lines. Works closely with WM businesses to proactively identity, assess, mitigate and monitor operational risks while providing key oversight functions including:
    • RCSAs
    • KRIs
    • NIRAs
    • Operational loss reporting
    • Scenario analysis
    • Etc.

 

  • Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM)
  • Leads compliance to Scotiabank’s Third Party Risk Management Policy for WM business lines
  • Work closely with WM business lines to proactively identity, assess, mitigate and monitor outsourcing risks while providing key oversight functions and program assurance
  • Assist in the implementation of the TPRM program for WM
  • Participate in the TRPM re-design and project implementation organized by Scotiabank

 

Regulatory Compliance Management (eRCM)

  • Leads compliance to Scotiabank’s Enterprise Regulatory Compliance Management for WM business lines
  • Leads the implementation of eRCM on behalf of WM business lines to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including mapping of regulations, documenting controls, implementing regulatory changes and documenting on-going controls

 

  • Volcker Rule
  • Leads compliance to Scotiabank’s Volcker Rule Policy for WM busineses
  • Effectively monitor and oversee day-to-day management of the 1B function for the Volcker Rule
  • Act as the Volcker SME and advise WM Committees and Sub-Committees
  • Monitor and report on Management Processes according to service levels outlined in the Canadian Banking and Canadian Wealth Management Volcker Operating Handbook

 

  • Sales Conduct
  • Leads compliance to Scotiabank’s Enterprise Sales Conduct Framework for WM businesses
  • Leads the implementation of the Sales Conduct Framework on behalf of WM business lines to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, documenting controls, and implementing regulatory changes

 

  • Leads the implementation of on-going and new regulatory programs
  • Initiates, manages and delivers projects by working independently or within cross-functional teams and/or WM businesses with the implementation regulatory programs and/or controls
  • Develops proposals and business cases (where required)
  • Establishes milestones and assess work effort
  • Coordinates and implements (where required) project plans and track progress
  • Creates project templates to create required documentation and reporting

 

  • Maintain regulatory awareness
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements
  • Advises business units on topical and emerging regulatory changes
  • Responds to questions about regulatory matters
  • The Senior Manager will participate in other undertakings as requirement including projects arising from regulatory initiatives, identifying compliance training needs and communicating findings and implementing corrective actions

 

  • Leads other projects and activities as required

 

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

 

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Dimensions

  • Up to two direct reports
  • Supports up to 3 workstreams within a complex portfolio of regulatory and operational control projects
  • Maintain and advise on regulatory knowledge of relevant Canadian regulations (IIROC, MFDA, OSC, OSFI) and applying it to all GWM businesses
  • Expert understanding of operational processes and risk governance across GWM
  • Works with senior stakeholders from all levels across GWM’s business units and the control & support functions, including Compliance, Legal, Risk Management, Privacy, etc.
  • Maintain expert working knowledge of internal systems: Vista, ORMS, GIMS, Power BI

 

 

Education / Experience / Other Information

  • Regulatory experience is an asset, including Compliance, Operational Risk, Third Party Risk, and Legal
  • Previous experience in project management and/or regulatory reform initiatives or work experience
  • Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance with a minimum of 8 years of relevant banking experience or an MBA with a minimum of 5 years of relevant banking experience
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory bodies including OSFI, OSC, IIROC, and MFDA
  • Excellent problem solving, negotiating skills and well-developed influencing skills
  • Strong written and verbal skills to prepare documentation, deliver presentations and interact effectively with GWM business lines and other departments
  • Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of Global Wealth business units and support functions crossing all delivery channels
  • Intermediate level: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio
  • Experience with ORMS, GIMS, Power BI preferred
  • Relationship building competencies to build/maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders and business unit partners
  • Self-starter with excellent time management skills and proven track record of meeting deliverables
  • Excellent problem solving, negotiating skills and highly developed influencing skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills to prepared documentation and interact effectively with Global Wealth business lines and other departments
  • Excellent leadership and time management skills
  • Excellent knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of Global Wealth business units and support functions crossing all delivery channels
  • Must maintain a current awareness of regulatory requirements and industry best practices in operational risk; and
  • Expert knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio
  • Business/Legal degree or equivalent
  • 8+ years previous experience in project management and/or regulatory reform initiatives or significant work experience in a WM environment
  • Strong relationship building competencies to build/maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders and business unit partners
  • Expert analytic and problem solving capability
  • Exceptional presentation and written communications skills
  • Proven track record of meeting deliverables
