The role:

 

This role has responsibility for ensuring accurate and timely reporting of Regulatory Capital components for Banking book Debt and Securitization for the total Bank, including both on- and off-balance sheet exposures. 

The added complexity for this role is reviewing, accessing and implementing any changes to regulatory capital requirements, including changes in the Capital Adequacy Requirements (CAR) and Leverage Requirements (LR) guidelines. The role requires significant coordination with key partners in Global Banking & Markets (GBM), Treasury, Market Risk, Middle office, Accounting Policies & Procedures (APP), etc.  

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Be responsible for Regulatory Capital with respect to the debt and securitization portfolios.  This includes quarterly reporting plus all changes required in capital reporting due to new model developments within risk management.  Also responsible for Leverage Ratio reporting for the Bank and five Canadian subsidiaries. 
  • Be responsible for leading and coordinating Regulatory Capital related initiatives associated with these portfolios in meeting existing and any upcoming regulatory requirements. This will require a good understanding of the Business Banking products and an ability to perform in-depth analysis for initiating systems changes and marshaling support to ensure banks’ readiness to comply with any new rules and following existing rules.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in Debt securities and Securitizations for projects affecting the defined portfolios and play a support role on key initiatives affecting capital, with the ability to provide impact and influence in the planning and design of the implementation rollout. In these projects the incumbent will be expected to provide extensive analytical and modeling support to various portfolio be responsible for a thorough and comprehensive User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and sign-off prior to the implementation in Adenza Controller View. 
  • Monitor, research, analyze and interpret the proposed changes of the Regulatory Capital and Leverage guidelines for the portfolios. This will require in-depth understanding and analysis of the complex rules proposed for each of the portfolios within the bank. This will require a consultative process requiring inputs from various departments.
  • Provide extensive analysis and support for production of the quarterly reporting Pillar III disclosure and related commentary, in addition to the Financial Statement and MD&A. This includes providing rationale of the Basel III capital results. This will require ongoing innovation in developing new management reports and tools that will lead to faster analysis during extremely tight external deadlines. 
  • Work on Bank’s participation in regulatory Quantitative Impact Studies (QIS) as initiated by BIS consultative documents. This will include Business Banking products, including debt and securitization portfolio, and the Leverage return.
  • Work with Global Risk Management (GRM) and IT towards advancing Finance reporting requirements as part of the Bank’s overall MIS program initiative.
  • Work with external and internal auditors to ensure that all Financial Statement and Pillar 3 disclosures of credit and capital data are published as per the SOX processes designed. Responsible for yearly RDARR compliance attestation, and audits of RDARR compliance. Also maintain documentation and support for Data Office policy adherence. 
  • Work with GRM - Market Risk group to monitor the market risk on regular basis and report any adverse regulatory capital impact from the Bank’s trading book exposure. Responsible for the consolidation of the Bank’s total market risk capital requirement and report it on OSFI’s BCAR schedules.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and training to one direct report by identifying opportunities for professional growth, guiding them to success in their role, and reviewing their deliverables. Build effective, inclusive and trustful relationships for the team to work on the department’s goals and meet various milestones in monthly reporting or projects.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

 

  • 5+ years experience in the Finance/Risk area of a major financial institution.
  • 2-3 years of demonstrated work experience in managing projects in a cross functional environment.
  • CA, CMA, CFA or University degree in Business, Mathematics or Computer Science.
  • Strong understanding of the Basel III Framework rules for large internationally active banks, OSFI Capital Adequacy and Leverage Requirements guidelines.
  • Knowledge of capital impact on the Bank’s portfolios, primarily debt securities and securitization, and other Business Banking products.
  • Hands-on experience with financial reporting, reconciliations and data analysis.
  • Self-motivated individual with excellent organizational and time management skills. Strong interpersonal skills, as the incumbent will interface on a frequent basis with various stakeholders (Securities group, IT, Market Risk, Business Units, APP, and other stakeholders).
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, attention to details and be able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Well versed in all aspects of building and maintaining strong control environment.
  • Highly proficient in Excel, Access and other MS Office suite products. Ability to quickly develop MS Access queries, PowerBI reports, financial models.
  • Good working knowledge of bank’s GL and risk reporting systems and processes will be an asset.
  • Experience in supervising staff.
  • This position requires production of accurate information to generally predictable but occasionally unpredictable deadlines. Month- and quarter-end closure brings long hours. The incumbent will work under considerable time pressure during those periods.
