The Role

The Senior Manager, Testing Automation plays a pivotal leadership role in driving the automation strategy and execution across the Cards Engineering suite. This role leads a team of automation engineers and QA professionals, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and reliable systems through modern testing practices. The incumbent collaborates closely with development, DevOps, and QA leadership to embed automation into Agile delivery pipelines, supporting both new initiatives and production stability.

1. Automation Strategy & Agile Quality Leadership

  • Define and execute a comprehensive automation roadmap aligned with Cards Engineering objectives.
  • Champion shift-left testing, CI/CD integration, and test-driven development practices.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and Engineering Leads to embed automation into Agile workflows.
  • Drive adoption of modern automation frameworks and tools across squads.

 

2. Production Support & System Reliability

  • Oversee automation efforts for production support, including regression suites, health checks, and defect validation.
  • Partner with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and DevOps to ensure robust release automation and operational resilience.
  • Implement proactive monitoring and automated regression testing to minimize incidents.

 

3. Governance, Standards & Tooling

  • Establish and enforce automation standards, frameworks, and best practices.
  • Provide oversight for automation coverage in large, complex projects, ensuring alignment with business and technical requirements.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of banking systems, automation architecture, and evolving technologies.
  • Provides oversight and governance for the testing of large, complex projects reviewing and evaluating requirements and design documentation, developing test strategies, approving the preparation of comprehensive test documentation, overseeing daily testing activities and monitoring progress of testing.
  • Participate in the process to establish, communicate, and manage objectives, strategies and plans for the Testing area of QA, ensuring quality principles are adhered to in a “speed-to-market’ culture.  Review planned activities for future initiatives, participate in forward-planning sessions and identify/resolve conflicts between initiatives. 
  • Maintain a thorough and current comprehension of Banking systems, QA code configuration and connections, environmental resources, code delivery processes and rapidly advancing Business System and technological changes.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and security requirements while promoting efficiency and scalability in testing processes.
  • Coordinates with the Senior Manager, QA to enhance automation coverage and effectiveness.
  • Prioritize system reliability and proactively identify risks through exploratory testing, automation, and performance monitoring.
  • Monitor and report on test execution metrics, defect trends, and automation effectiveness to drive data-informed decisions.
  • Collaborate with the Cards Engineering QA leadership to continuously enhance tooling and automation effectiveness.

 

4. People Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead, coach, and mentor automation engineers and QA staff, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.
  • Conduct performance reviews, identify skill gaps, and implement training plans to build future-ready automation capabilities.
  • Promote continuous improvement through retrospectives, metrics analysis, and industry benchmarking.

 

5. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on automation strategy, quality risks, and release readiness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage dependencies and ensure timely delivery.
  • Support UAT automation and coordination, ensuring alignment with business expectations.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. (Preferred)
  • Certifications (Preferred): ISTQB Certified Tester, Certified Agile Tester (CAT), Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or equivalent Agile certification, Automation Tool Certifications (e.g., Selenium, UFT)
  • Advance understanding of functional operation of banking applications and interfaces, including Credit Card and Debit Card systems.
  • Proven experience leading QA teams in Agile environments, with strong knowledge of Scrum, Kanban, and/or SAFe principles.
  • Expertise in QA methodologies, automation frameworks, and performance testing.
  • Strong understanding of production support processes, system reliability engineering, and DevOps practices.
  • Experience on managing testing projects involving business applications with Web interfaces, GUI, and legacy systems (e.g., Host 4700/3270, IMS, AS/400). 
  • Ability to design and review UAT test plans, assign and validate test documentation, and ensure optimal resource utilization. Experience supervising and executing complex test plans, managing multiple stakeholders, and coordinating code delivery with external vendors.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
