The Senior Manager will contribute to the overall success of the Real Estate Secured Lending (RESL) workstream of a multi-year risk transformation program. Reporting to the Director, Quality Assurance (QA), RESL Program, the QA Senior Manager will be responsible for performing QA review activities to assess the design and reasonability in support of the effective closure of key initiatives. The incumbent will also provide value-added support to our internal stakeholders by making recommendations which contribute to the overall enhancement of our programs and processes. Over time, the role will evolve to incorporate governance and oversight activities for GRM with a similar reporting structure. The position will further be accountable for the continuous improvement of program governance and capabilities over the life of the transformation program.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Develop, plan, and execute Quality Assurance reviews for all submissions from Management. Ensure QA results are analyzed, key themes are highlighted, root causes are identified, and impact is assessed. Ensure working paper files are documented on time and according to established QA documentation standards.
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring activities to stay abreast of process and program changes, regulatory impact, emerging risks, themes, or systemic issues that may impact the risk assessment of initiatives.
  • Act primarily as QA liaison for assigned programs and processes. As a trusted advisor, will provide subject matter expertise on risk and control best practices during the development and/or enhancement of various initiatives as required.
  • Assist with preparation of periodic status updates and reporting packages to be presented to business, senior management, regulatory bodies, oversight committees, and other stakeholder groups, as needed.
  • Support the development of effective governance processes and tools to swiftly address key risks, issues, and changes arising through the program. Support the Director in setting appropriate decision authorities to support efficient execution while reducing time spent on unnecessary project tasks and deliverables.
  • Conduct objective analysis of the organization’s ability to absorb change and implement appropriate Change Management and Communications programs to ensure strong adoption and sustainment of change.
  • Collaborate with the program delivery teams to develop and continuously refine integrated project and program plans, including adequate work breakdown structure, key interdependencies, milestones, and resource allocation.
  • Support implementation of superior project delivery practices to enable successful outcomes against stated obligations.
  • Support and deliver timely and consistent financial management and program reporting as per established standards.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs, analyze data, and generate reports to assess program effectiveness, identify trends, and provide data-driven insights.
  • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Create an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.

  • Bachelor’s degree required, combined with relevant work experience.
  • Ability to apply professional judgment, supported by appropriate analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand various operations and assess the effectiveness of processes and controls.
  • Demonstrable success in leading large-scale projects involving geographically and functionally diverse stakeholders.
  • Effective communication skills, including developing/delivering executive presentations, socializing complex proposals, and facilitating senior management working sessions to secure key decisions. Ability to effectively challenge and objectively opine are key success drivers.
  • Strong experience in project/portfolio resource planning, reporting, prioritization, and budgeting.
  • Ability to promote innovative ideas and accept the risks that are required to lead change.
  • Experience in Compliance, Audit, risk assessment, testing, and internal control assessment methodologies.
  • Ability to work in an environment with competing deadlines, ambiguity, rapid change, and develop approaches to conduct QA in these environments.
