The Senior Manager contributes to the overall success of the Global Sanctions & Screening (GSS) program risk function by ensuring that specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed and delivered in support of the function, as well as the strategies and objectives of the GSS team. The Senior Manager also ensures that all activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- As a sanctions subject matter expert, provide advice and counsel critical to the sustainment of Scotiabank’s program risk function, including:

- Executing various activities in support of assessing and advising on sanctions risks related to new product/service initiatives;
- Executing various activities in support of assessing and advising on sanctions risks associated with third-party engagements and their contractual arrangements; and
- Acting as a primary point of contact for general inquiries directed to the program risk function.

- Provide input (including appropriate text revisions) into the development and periodic updates of the enterprise New Initiative AML/TF and Sanctions Risk Assessment Methodology and associated procedures, as well as the Global AML Third-Party Risk Management Standards.
- Design and maintain all relevant GSS-specific program risk documentation, including desktop procedures.
- Maintain a recordkeeping system for completed risk assessments.
- Distribute a tracker of completed, pending, and on-hold new product/service initiatives to applicable stakeholders.
- Support ad hoc assignments as directed by the Director, Global Sanctions.
- Contribute to the content of senior/executive management reporting related to the GSS program risk function.
- Contribute to the content, design, and delivery of training to support and educate stakeholders on the execution of the program risk function.
- Stay informed on matters relevant to the GSS program risk function, including changes in applicable sanctions laws, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Build strong partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively across functional teams.
- Foster a high-performance, inclusive work environment that reinforces both individual accountability and strong inter-team cooperation.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:
- · A Juris Doctor (JD) or LL.B., with a minimum of 5 years of sanctions compliance experience—or an equivalent combination of education and related experience in a financial institution setting.
- Thorough knowledge of the financial services sector, including business, products, operations, and systems.
- Working knowledge of Canadian and U.S. AML/ATF and economic sanctions laws, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
- A self-starter mindset with a proven track record of delivering high-priority, high-impact results with minimal supervision.
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Results- and detail-oriented approach, with excellent time management and reporting skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build strong cross-functional business relationships.
- Skilled proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other related productivity tools.
- An AML/ATF/sanctions-related professional designation (e.g., CAMS, CGSS, CSS) is considered an asset.
