Purpose
Senior Manager, Portfolio & Product Optimization is responsible for driving the strategic direction, planning and optimization of the Global Transaction Banking (GTB) cash management product portfolio across BNS’s North American and International business footprint. They will be involved in the implementation of portfolio growth tactics, execution of key strategic initiatives, financial planning and forecasting and the delivery of key operational and regulatory reporting. This includes working with stakeholders across the bank to drive growth opportunities and generate alignment amongst key decision makers.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide strategic insight and thought leadership to advance GTB’s agenda and support informed decision‑making at the senior leadership level.
- Drive portfolio profitability by analyzing performance, identifying opportunities, and developing recommendations across the GTB product suite.
- Lead high‑impact, enterprise‑wide strategic initiatives, owning end‑to‑end delivery, execution, and stakeholder management.
- Partner with stakeholders across the Bank to align priorities, execute strategic initiatives, and communicate effectively with executive audiences.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of implemented strategies and initiatives, recommending enhancements and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Own cyclical forecasting and planning activities for the cash management portfolio, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and alignment with business objectives.
- Develop data‑driven, scenario‑based models and business cases to support investment decisions and strategic direction.
- Create, maintain, and enhance monthly business reporting, including financial dashboards, KPIs, and ad‑hoc analyses.
- Derive and analyze actionable insights and potential leads to enable sales teams in driving cross‑sell and revenue growth opportunities.
- Research, analyze, and synthesize market trends, competitive intelligence, leading practices, and business data to support strategic planning.
- Monitor product performance through key metrics, market trends, competitive scans, and revenue opportunity assessments.
- Assess business processes to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and scalability.
- Embed the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture into day‑to‑day activities, ensuring sound risk‑based decision‑making.
- Ensure strong operational controls and governance within the team, meeting obligations related to operational risk, regulatory compliance, AML/ATF, and conduct risk in alignment with Bank frameworks and guidelines.
- Build and lead high‑performing teams by fostering an inclusive environment, providing coaching, development, and clear direction, and supporting succession and workforce planning.
- Support continuous team development by providing training, resources, feedback, and career growth opportunities.
What You'll Bring:
- 5+ years of people management experience, including leadership roles within Product Management, Strategy, or closely related functions.
- Proven self‑starter with strong confidence and initiative; able to navigate ambiguity, shifting priorities, and complex business environments.
- Undergraduate degree (or equivalent diploma) required; MBA preferred, with specialization in Finance, Strategy, Analytics, Business, or Marketing considered an asset.
- Strong financial acumen with a deep understanding of GTB product financials, P&L drivers, and value levers.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and results‑oriented mindset, with the ability to translate strategy into action.
- Solid knowledge of payments, industry trends, innovative digital platforms, and applicable policies and procedures.
- Thorough understanding of the Canadian financial services and banking landscape, including customer segments and the Bank’s competitive position.
- Strong facilitation and leadership skills, with experience guiding senior individual contributors toward shared objectives.
- Demonstrated success leading teams and working effectively across functions to deliver complex, enterprise‑level initiatives.
