The Senior Manager, Portfolio Oversight and Risk Appetite will contribute to the overall success of Retail Credit Risk in International Banking ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.
They are responsible for providing independent portfolio insight and risk appetite monitoring across International Banking retail credit portfolios, covering the full credit lifecycle (Originations, Account Management, Collections) and all business lines (Personal Banking, Consumer Finance, Small Business).
The role supports effective 2nd line oversight by monitoring portfolio performance, identifying emerging risks and anomalies, and translating quantitative analysis into clear, actionable insights for management and governance. They also are responsible for designing and delivering high-quality performance reports and dashboards for management and executive audiences, ensuring data quality, accuracy, and alignment with business needs.

Portfolio Oversight, Risk Appetite Monitoring & Effective Challenge
- Monitor regional retail credit portfolio performance across IB geographies to identify emerging risks, concentrations, structural shifts, and unusual trends.
- Assess portfolio performance relative to approved risk appetite, limits, and early warning indicators, identifying breaches, near-breaches, or areas of deviation.
- Conduct targeted deep-dive analyses into portfolio performance anomalies or emerging risk signals to diagnose root causes and potential gaps.
- Enforce risk appetite guidelines, metrics, and communicate findings to business partners and management.
- Conduct reviews and provide effective challenge of Credit Risk Proposals (CRPs), as assigned, ensuring proposals are decision-ready, risk-articulated, and aligned to appetite.
Management Reporting & Insights
- Design, develop, and maintain polished dashboards, performance reports, and narratives for management and executive-level audience, ensuring data quality, accuracy, and alignment with business needs.
- Synthesize analytical outputs into clear insights for senior management and governance forums.
- Inform priorities for risk data, metrics, and indicators required to support effective portfolio oversight and risk appetite monitoring.
Portfolio Intelligence & Capability Development
- Contribute to exploratory analyses to identify new data variables, risk drivers, and analytical insights that can strengthen retail risk management practices and decision-making.
- Support the oversight and remediation of risk controls if regional risk appetite frameworks metrics, limits, or portfolio capabilities need to be developed.
- Continuously benchmark across the region to drive standardization and close gaps.
Risk Culture & Conduct
- Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:
- Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related field.
- Strong background in credit risk analytics, portfolio management, and risk monitoring
- Strong proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
- Working knowledge of risk management, analysis models, and financial analysis.
- Knowledge of risk management practices, to effectively challenge current practices
- Strong financial analysis and written skills complemented with solid deductive reasoning, sound judgement and creativity.
- Strong negotiating and networking skills in conducting day-to-day activities.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish is preferred.
