This role is crucial for the success of the Global GBM AML Team, ensuring individual goals, plans, and initiatives align with the team’s business strategies and objectives. The role also entails making sure all activities comply with relevant regulations, internal policies, and procedures. The Senior Manager will lead and address the policy, standards, and procedural needs of GBM in line with the Bank’s Enterprise-wide AML/ATF and Sanctions Policy. This role requires effective challenge to the 1st Line of Defense (1LOD) and 2nd Line of Defense (2LOD) on multiple elements of policy implementation. Working with stakeholders across all jurisdictions, including GBM business units, Internal Control Oversight, Onboarding, Global Policy & Standards Office, and Business Line AML teams is a core component of the role.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen internal and external client relationships by leveraging broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Develop GBM-related policies and standards that meet regulatory expectations and industry best practices with respect to AML/ATF and sanctions compliance.
  • Represent GBM AML on various KYC & Policy forums internally and externally, to effect & implement change and also obtain feedback and address the same through policy updates, while strategizing GBM’s interests and risk appetite. 
  • Support AML Officers in each GBM Jurisdiction to harmonize key program documents and update to reflect changes in the control environment.
  • Support the Global AML Departments in each GBM jurisdiction in executing against policy documents.
  • Partner with GBM AML Advisory and Business teams on interpretation and implementation of current and under development AML/ATF & sanctions policies and standards content.
  • Manage all aspects of the policy program, including but not limited to:
    • Alignment of GBM AML/ATF & sanctions policies with Enterprise-wide standards;
    • Incorporation of relevant regulatory and industry guidance (e.g., FATF, Wolfsberg, LSTA etc.);
    • Timely revision of policies based on changing regulatory environment and expectations and work with the Head of AML Risk Program to ensure policies and/or procedures are appropriately updated and communicated to relevant audiences;
    • Completion of periodic revisions and approvals in consultation with all stakeholders; and
    • Record-keeping, as it relates to policy documents & approvals.
  • Work with GBM AML Governance Program team and other relevant Global AML and Sanctions stakeholders, to obtain feedback and approvals (where necessary) to ensure alignment of GBM policies, standards and methodologies. 
  • Act as the liaison between GBM Jurisdictions and Global AML with respect to Policies and Training initiatives for GBM.
  • Support the Global AML with the approval of their policies, variances and exceptions requests.
  • Assist with the coordination/provision of information for regulatory exams and internal audit.
  • Where requested, act as a second review where required for regulatory and senior management submissions.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:

 

  • Degree in economics, finance, law or similar field, MBA
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a regulatory and/or compliance capacity within a financial institution setting encompassing Policy, Training and AML advisory activities.
  • Strong knowledge of Global Banking & Markets and Banking business unit functions, procedures, cash management and payment products, capital and financial markets, policies and how the various supporting units interact;
  • Experience working in or with 1LOD KYC execution functions
  • Thorough written and verbal skills required to prepare communications and interact effectively with other Bank departments and external parties;
  • ACAMS preferred
