The Senior Manager, Payments Network Partnerships is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day partnerships with the networks, supporting the development of our payments strategy and roadmap. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, and internal policies and procedures.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will: 

  • Relationship Management & Business Reviews:
    • Support the day‑to‑day relationship activities with payment networks (i.e., Visa, Mastercard, Interac, Amex) and act as the primary liaison for network‑related communications, escalations, operational issues, and compliance inquiries. (e.g., Visa analytics platform licence management, triaging & business / technical inquiries)
    • Coordinate monthly and quarterly business reviews, including agenda setting, stakeholder alignment, performance reporting, benchmark insights, and progress on contractual and strategic initiatives
  • Value creation opportunities with networks:
    • Support the identification of opportunities with networks to understand their roadmaps and pipeline
    • Assess and triage opportunities with networks and key internal stakeholders  
    • Work through the analysis of opportunities as required that align with organizational strategies with internal stakeholders to evaluate relevant and value
  • Mandates Compliance and Delivery:
    • Review and triage mandates with stakeholders to build organizational understanding and identify clear accountability and ETAs with cross‑functional teams (Cards, Fraud, Digital, Tech, Risk).
    • Lead and execute the delivery to comply with specific mandates (E.g., processing updates, Visa Biometrics, Visa OCT/AFT, etc.)
    • Lead annual audits with compliance and key partners
    • Ensure adherence to network mandate contractual dates through ongoing tracking and support with accountable partners (e.g., Cards, Fraud, Digital)
    • Maintain audit readiness and manage remediation plans, if applicable
  • Network Billing & Invoice Management:
    • Establish and maintain a documented billing & invoicing process with finance and settlement teams
    • Work with finance and settlement teams to update the new settlement process
    • Manage monthly billing operations and ensure the settlement process is accurate
  • Network Performance Management:
    • Report & manage against forecast and plan
    • Develop materials to support monthly review of key KPIs for the network partnership
    • Identify gaps and manage the resolution of gaps with internal business / key partners
  • Incentive & Commercial Management:
    • Support the management of incentives budget
    • Manage SOW / BIA processes with legal and procurement teams / manage internal approvals processes
    • Develop supporting materials on ongoing spend and internal governance to ensure effective usage
  • Support Contract Negotiations Analysis: 
    • Support negotiations, renewals, and amendments of agreements.
    • Supports network contract negotiation analysis, including revenue and fee analysis, scenarios planning, incentives, contract KPIs
    • Works with product teams, external partners to benchmark and gather key inputs required to support decision making and analysis
    • Develops the communication materials on the analysis to support decision making
  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk. 

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Post-secondary education (MBA an asset)
  • 8+ years of Payments experience
  • Deep understanding of payment networks economics, industry trends and opportunities
  • Excellent analytical, modeling and strategy development expertise
  • Strong relationship management and collaboration across multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, especially creating and delivering strong business focused strategic plans
  • MS Office including proficiency with Power Point, Excel presentations
  • Experience leading a cross-functional team or major project workstream
  • Flexible and adaptable within a dynamic business environment with ability to anticipate and react quickly to technological/market change

Working Conditions

  • This role is located in our downtown Toronto, ON office location. Non-standard hours may be required to meet business objectives.
