Contributes to the overall success of operational risk management capabilities for Scotiabank’s global enterprise by managing special projects to support execution of program enhancement opportunities. The Senior Manager, Operational Risk Program, Strategic Initiatives, is responsible to lead key projects that improve risk management governance, regulatory compliance, process efficiency, and enterprise risk oversight for programs within Operational Risk, working collaboratively with stakeholders and partners across the global footprint to drive these initiatives. Special projects will include the development of an enterprise Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) technology solution and a Process Risk & Controls (PRC) framework for the Bank
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Identifies opportunities for process improvements and implements best practices to advance the Operational Risk Program, including Process Risk Control (PRC) Inventory, RCSAs, NIRAs, Scenario Analysis and KRIs.
- Champions a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Develops comprehensive project plans, including scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, and resource allocation to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Leverages lessons learned from other transformational initiatives to help desired target state outcomes.
- Identifies and engages with key stakeholders, ensuring their needs and expectations are met throughout the project lifecycle.
- Fosters a collaborative and productive working environment to achieve project success.
- Develops and manages project budgets, tracks expenditures, and ensures financial resources are utilized efficiently.
- Maintain effective communication channels with project teams, stakeholders, and senior management to provide regular updates and address any issues or concerns.
- Ensures activities are delivered with a sense of urgency and arising risks/issues are raised to appropriate leadership.
- Upholds strong risk management principles; ensures enhancements to governance resources and processes adhere to risk appetite, audit expectations, and global regulatory obligations. Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
- 10+ years proven governance, risk management, process engineering and/ or vendor management experience in Financial Services industry.
- Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Engineering; MBA, CRM certification or other Graduate Program in related discipline would be an asset.
- Experience in driving dynamic and multifaceted projects.
- Strategic thinking and strategic influencing skills.
- Knowledgeable on regulations and industry practices regarding operational risk, comfortable driving conclusions/insights from numerical indicators.
- Sound judgment, learning agility, and a high level of professional and personal integrity.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills; ability to effectively communicate with senior/executive management.
- Ability to build strong cross-functional business relationships.
- Ability to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational efficiency without compromising target state outcomes.
- Self-reliant and pro-active approach to work.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Spanish speaking an asset.
