Title:  Senior Manager, Marketing Planning, Travel Payments

Purpose of Job:

This position plays a key role in developing and executing strategic marketing programs to address opportunities with the Day to Day, Credit Cards, and Retail Customer Solutions businesses – top strategic priorities for the organization. The role will maintain a dedicated focus on our Travel portfolio of products as well as our overarching rewards positioning. You’ll work closely with key internal stakeholders and external partners to create national marketing campaigns, launch new products and / or break into new markets.


The successful candidate will create actionable marketing strategies that align with business and customer needs. Strong digital marketing knowledge and project management skills are required.  


Major Accountabilities:

Marketing Planning and Execution

Keep a pulse on all competitive activity and emerging marketing trends.

Leverage learnings to provide input into marketing plans. Make strategic recommendations and obtain buy-in.

Lead collaborative planning and execution processes with marketing partners in Media, Digital, Social, Direct, Research, Marketing Services, Marketing Channels and Employee Engagement to ensure marketing programs are fully integrated.

Establish clear measurement (objectives and KPIs) to determine media strategies and drive optimization during campaigns.

Ensure the media buy is efficient and cost effective to meet overall objectives.

Ensure messaging and creative is impactful, effective and adheres to brand standards.

Liaise with Digital Factory to ensure campaign connectivity with digital acquisition activity.

Ensure all Digital Factory marketing elements abide by brand standards and within communication guardrails.

Obtain all appropriate approvals, including business lines (BLs), Legal and any applicable partners. 

Flawlessly execute in all channels.

Oversee owned asset channels, including ScotiaOnline,, Student Hub, social media, ABMs, and Digital Screens, as they relate to Travel campaigns.

Lead post analysis for campaigns by summarizing results, distilling insights and making recommendations that inform future initiatives.

Collaborate with the Research and Data Warehouse analysts to conduct campaign and advertising program post analysis and provide learning for future campaigns.

Drive new ways to work and run interaction model experiments with the goal of achieving speed to market.


Business Line & Partner Relationship Management

Support the business line (BL) objectives and priorities through marketing plans and initiatives.

Develop collaborative working relationships with BL partners, marketing colleagues and agencies.

Integrate into the Digital Factory model seamlessly when necessary, with the ability to shift between waterfall and agile methods of work delivery.

Provide leadership and work effectively within a cross-functional team environment that includes many reporting levels and varying skills/competencies.

Be seen as a trusted advisor and a marketing subject matter expert.

Proactively share best practices and learning with peers and partners.  

Work closely with internal marketing partners to develop integrated marketing plans.

Manage overall relationship with media and creative agencies.


Customer Focused Marketing Programs

Act as the “voice of the customer” and ensure key consumer insights / needs are being considered.

Recommend market research where necessary to ensure marketing programs are relevant and consistent with customer and Bank needs.

Leverage best practices, competitive reviews, research insights and media habits to build knowledge for our business lines and increase effectiveness for plans.

Support the advancement of the Customer Value Proposition through effective marketing and internal communications.


Project Management

Effectively manage multiple projects of vast scope, strategic impact and complexity and deliver projects on strategy, on time, on budget.


Budget Management and Reporting

Develop and obtain approval on our annual marketing strategy (Travel-specific).

Manage marketing budget, track expenses, and provide monthly updates for re-forecasting.

Optimize effective use of agency and studio relationships for cost reductions.

Provide fulsome campaign reporting to BLs with completion of post-analysis results for all campaigns in a timely manner strengthening our measurement discipline and strategic recommendations on future campaigns to improve campaign ROI.

Leverage reporting tools to monitor campaigns on an ongoing basis and optimize when required.
