Purpose


Lead the vision and execution of accreditation and licensing strategies, programs and initiatives across Canada ensuring alignment with business and global strategy. Responsible for consulting with and advising business leaders on accreditation and licensing-related topics, opportunities, strategies, etc. This role works closely with business leadership teams (SVP and below) to identify and implement solutions that meet the credentialling needs of the business.  

 

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise on a complex variety of Financial Planning Credentials and Licenses for Canadian Banking. Advise on Federal and Provincial regulatory requirements for employees at Scotiabank. Advise business group leadership on how to apply and optimize these programs based on their employees requirements.
  • Manage the tracking, recording, and communication related to all role-required education in Canadian Banking. This includes both the Country-wide tracking of new-hire credentialling and licensing, as well as the Provincially specific title-protection regulations and their approved pathways. 
  • Work directly with Canada’s major credential providers in order to ensure Scotiabank has the most current, and high quality educational pathways for it’s employees to offer their customer’s the best, most appropriate advice. This includes owning multiple Master Services Agreements related to the offering of Financial Planning Designations, and Securities/Mutual Fund sales licenses.
  • Maintain Scotiabank's Canadian Banking and SSI Annual Continuing Education Program. Manage the implementation, tracking, and reconciliation of records between Scotiabank, the CE provider, and the regulator. 
  • Work directly with Canada’s major credential providers to offer ad-hoc, specialized educational pathways for employees who are pursuing alternative designations/licenses. Provide subject matter expertise on these alternative pathways, and work with our vendors to grant access/completion history/equivalencies where applicable.
  • Directly influence a $3.5 Million annual role-required education budget. Manage the receipt, verification, and submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual invoices for our three primary vendors.
  • Indirectly influence Canadian Banking annual sales scorecards, professional development, and compliance readiness by offering the programs required to provide effective Financial Advice.
  • Own and maintain Canadian Branch Bankings role-required education policy. Ensure the policy is accurate, and perform annual required maintenance through the HR Knowledge Management program. Work with partners in HR and Canadian Banking to approve and verify policy requirements.
  • Act as the first point of contact for Employee Services AskHR for any questions related to role-required education, ah-hoc accreditation or licensing questions, and all regulatory questions tied to Provincial Title-Protection legislation.
  • Own and manage the FP Accreditation Scotiabank Live Page. Ensure information is accurate and work with partners across the bank to partner and link out to relevant programs: i.e. Onboarding, ELEVATE, 
  • Responsible for creating an annual learning strategy and strategies for specific learning programs to address specific business needs related to Accreditation and Licensing.
  • Accountable for the successful deployment of learning programs and collaborates with HR Services to ensure successful deployment of learning programs. Provides support for escalated cases from HR Services.
  • Employs a performance consulting approach to ensure that learning solutions address defined performance gaps 
  • Proactively utilizes a wide range of data to identify themes/trends and recommend effective learning strategies to meet the business needs.
  • Maintains new and ongoing relationships with external vendors and networks to ensure currency and relevancy of training industry trends and best practices, leverages knowledge to implement solutions to improve/enhance strategies, programs and processes. 
  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations within their respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct

Education / Experience

 

 

  • Post-secondary Degree in Human Resources or Business or related field
  • Significant or relevant experience in developing and executing learning strategies and solutions in a large complex corporate environment 
  • Degree, certificate or designation in adult learning is required
  • Strong communications skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. Ability to deal effectively with different levels of the organization (VP and below). 
  • Strong ability to strategically influence and persuade leaders. Strong ability to effectively perform in a complex, high change environment while being a positive steward for the global HR team
  • High level of knowledge related to Financial Planning Accreditation and Licensing requirements in Canada
  • Strong problem solving, conflict management, negotiation skills
  • Results oriented and able to effectively execute in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of Bank’s business strategy and how Learning can support them
  • Ability to translate strategy into actionable plans and results
  • Strong project management skills and effective execution skills to ensure successful delivery/implementation of learning initiatives and programs 
  • Superior prioritization and time management skills 
  • Strong business acumen and understanding to allow appropriate partnership with client groups

Working Conditions


This role is Hybrid. This may require you to be in the office 2-3 days per week. Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. Limited travel domestically.
